One reason he won't go to Edina. The transfer rule. He'd have to sit out an entire year. That's reason enough to avoid Edina for Lee...
in my understanding the NEW rule says that if the student lives in the city hes transferring into he doesnt have to sit out. something like that. thats what i heard from a former coach

I think burrito1313 is correct about the transfer rule.
The rumors are always there about Lee transfering back. This time, the rumors are different, because they came from a more reputible source. If he does, Edina will be a team to beat for many years.
You never know, until he is in classes for that year. Lee has many friends at Edina and it would always be fun to play with the kids that he grew up with.
dangles07, there is a way he is leaving STA. No one thought he would leave Edina, either.
The rumors about why Anders left say that he got in a dispute with a coach, I think it was a youth coach, about whether or not he could speed skate in the hockey year. Now, that it is no longer a disputed question, he very easily may come back, especially after Edina's success this year. He also has an opening in football and baseball, for the positions he plays.

Sparlimb,
He would not have to sit out a year if his parents lived in the Edina school District

wbmd, I already corrected that, but thanks.
I'm sure the youth coach had something to do with it, but how about the whole being able to play varsity thing? I'm sure not too many kids would turn that down.

He's a star at STA. He would be a second line center at Edina. He might not even make the first power play at Edina if he were to move back.
He's got a lot of positive attention now. From an exposure perspective, a move back might not be wise.

Breakout: Did you ever think, he might not need to be the "Star". I think he would do just fine at Edina. Don't even attempt to think you know what is best or what the kid may need at this point.

It's an opinion. That's what this forum is about.........get it???
Why did he go to St. Thomas in the first place? So he could be a speed skater too?? Vannelli says; sure you can play some hockey with us and speed skate all you want. Any coach in Minnesota would say that..........SURE. No hockey coach anywhere would garner a deal like that. That's putting an individual before the team. Vannelli is too good of a hockey guy to do something like that.
If playing with his buddies were important he should have stuck around and helped his buddies potentially win back to back state Bantam A State Championships. However, he chose a different path.
Now STA loses some players, Edina is strong next year and there is talk of him coming back to play with his buddies??
I hope the Anders speculation is hogwash.

I believe it is all decided and he is returning to Edina. He was working out with the EHS football offense as QB today.
Speed skating was part of the original equation with more flexibility from STA than from Edina Bantams. The educational opportunity was part of it also. But things change over time and different opportunities have different value.

If it's indeed true, that should make the Hornets tough to beat, even though they move to a different playoff section this year.....Lot of talented players coming back from their state tourney team....and now a second key transfer...(the other being the kid from Eastview)

Anders Lee was late tonight for hockey. That's because he was at 7 on 7 football playing qb for EDINA. He then proceeded back to braemar where he belongs... on a nice big rink... AA.... real fans.... his old friends... girls... for hockey with EDINA. Everyone from St. Thomas, believe it. Anders is back at Edina, and theres no turning back. Unless of course he just feels like signing up for Edina's summer hockey program and 7 on 7 football team for fun, and yes then still playing for St. Thomas. I doubt it. Edina is going to be unstoppable. 8 Legitimate 1st line forwards. WOW. great defense and goaltending everyone watch out for this team. You guys can deny it all you want, but the cake eaters are giong to dominate next year, and Anders Lee is giong to be a part of it.

Did the new transfer rules pass and get put into place? Where do his parents live right now? How is he getting around the residency rules?

They have never moved from Edina, They sent Anders to STA in eighth grade. Thus they have not transferred under the old rule. In the end this was Anders decision to return, In eighth grade the parents made the call.

Thats fine with the old transfer rules, but the "free" one is not part of the new transfer rules.
He would have had to get written verification from Edina by March 30th to be eligible to transfer for next season. Interesting.

It would not be a good day, but if it's what he wants, it wouldn't be the end of the world. They did just fine down Schroeder last year.
I guess the only real question now is when he opened enrolled back. It would be a shame to see him transfer and sit out his junior year. Even if he does transfer, I'm still confused why. Why would you transfer from playing on 3 state level teams to 1 state level team that's going to have a hell of a time making it to state?
Is he still doing any speed skating?

The paperwork was done before the April 1 deadline. But, until he showes up for the first day of school, nothing is official.

Unless he attends an officially scheduled football practice before school starts, then its official and theres no turning back.
Q. What if I’m not sure if I want to transfer to a “new” school but have registered before March 30, 2007? If I just go to a couple of practices before school starts and change my mind, can I go back to my old school and be eligible?
A. Your intent to transfer becomes an actual transfer if you participate in a practice or attend school at the new school.

Wow...hockey9999, only 1 post. Talking about how Edina is sooo good.

Hmm...Well, all I have to say is good luck to Anders in whatever he does, and does Edina still brag about that 5th place finish in the cities?

Personally, I know I wouldn't.
