Not a bad idea but like it was said eariler, it cost around 30 grand for Baudette to put up that rink. Not a lot of towns have that kind of extra money just laying around, that's why it makes more sense to play all the games at one venue and get the most use out of a very expensive set up.
It might just be me, but I saw the outdoor rink as a potential drawback. What if a snowstorm hit, or it was 10 below? That certainly provides some interest, but it detracts from the game. Why not hold the tournament in one of the northern city indoor rinks? That way, the city isn't out any dollars, and they'll be assured of making some, every year.
I like the idea of seeing numerous games, with less than state tourney talent, too. Any additional high school hockey coverage is a tremendous benefit, in my book.

Spoken like a true coddled Trojan!

The snow and the cold are the reason the game was played! You can go to any arena in this state and find a tounament.

The game wasn't played to showcase the elite level of hockey in Minnesota, it was played as a tip of the cap to the old-timers and the way they used to play. It was played to raise money for the LOW program. It was played because it's UNIQUE.

You obviously missed the point of the game. You're probably better off at the Plymouth Ice Center where it's always a balmy 70 degrees, the flourescent lighting always makes people smile, and the Caribou Coffee flows like wine!

What would you think of a couple iron range teams playing a game outside?

Eveleth vs. Virginia
Hibbing vs. Rapids

I myself think that having two teams that aren't up there in the rankings is better. It does give exposure to the teams with great history like Johnson or LOW that are simply old hockey programs.

As long as the game does not include any teams that have never played an outdoor home game, I'd be happy. Make sure they're teams with a history.
