Man was Crowley fun to watch. And even more fun to play. A great competitor.
Eden Prairie seems to be landing a few of the Jags from this era. Should be fun in a few years as their kids grow up.... assuming they'll play hockey

According to their scoring system, Boucha got 187 points. Broten and Housley can do no better than 190.

Ron Beck's Absence on the Hockey Hub List

One player not on the Hockey Hub list that deserves at least honorable mention is Ron Beck, who tended net for the International Falls Broncos during their first power trip in the mid-1960s. Beck played goalie during a three year stint and never lost a game for the Broncos dynasty. All-state and All-tournament honors. Beck also was an all-state baseball player. After high school, he played goalie for UMD and semi-pro hockey for the Green Bay Bobcats.
There are four players left to name, and any kind of list like this is going to be debated. My guess is that John Mayasich will be No. 1. He should be, but we'l see.

Housley is #3
According to their scoring system, Housley earned 184 of 185 HS points and 5 of 5 post HS points. Neal Broten will either have 184 or 185 HS points and 5 post HS points too, so he'll either tie or be ahead of Housley by one point. Mayasich will be #1.

i cannot believe mayasich is put above broten or housley....oh well..it made me feel all warm and fuzzy anyways...i enjoyed reading the bios on each player but putting mayasich and ikola in the top 10 is something i just dont agree with as i have said before. they didnt play 1/10 of the competition those other guys did.

Ach. Mayasich is like The Beatles of minnesota hockey. He is, by definition and into perpetuity, the Best Ever just because. More than anything, it shows that hockey reveres its own history, and I'm cool with that. Comparing Mayasich to Broten or Housley is apples to oranges, and the apples ~always~ come first. What Mayasich did in his time is simply not possible in this time because of changes in equipment, competition, AAA summer hockey, 9/11, and the price of tea in China.
Now if you wanted to start a list of the best 100 Minnesota hockey players ever, post-high school -- that would, I think, be a much different list.
Well, maybe not that different. But in a different order

My opinion - I would give more weight to winning state championships. That would move Broten & Housley down and Crowley, Antonovich, Sheehy, Rau & especially Spehar up. I would put him at #1. He had an incredible career with 163 goals and those great 3 nights in March 1995.
