Some of the top frosh performances for Saturday games:

Kyle Osterberg ends an amazing week with 2g 3a in Lakeville South's 6-2 win over Chaska. In three games (Tues, Thurs, Sat), Osterberg picked up 4 goals and 9 assists. Not too bad. But, tell me, how is Algebra 1 going?

Dylan Libra scored the game-winning goal for Mora in their 3-2 win over Meadow Creek Christian.

Park Rapids downed Red Lake Falls 4-0 with Ian Johnson picking up 1g 1a.

Hudson Fasching picked up 2 goals in Apple Valley's 5-2 defeat of Eastview.

Spring Lake Park beat St. Francis 8-2, but the real news is that Joey Benik didn't score all of St. Francis's goals. Nope, he only got one, while frosh Zach Foesch picked up the other goal.

Hill-Murray won again with Zach Lavalle getting 1 assist. Normally, I wouldn't mention just one assist, but I do get reminders about Mr. Lavalle, so this is protection money if you will.

Ha, you're right. Too bad that criteria is waaay out the window. It's amazing how coaches are taking "average" freshman to the varsity team. It's too bad. But i disagree with your assesment of the BSM kids...i think Labosky is good and he sees a pretty good amount of ice despite his size.

you have obviously not watched a benilde game this year because labosky makes about 10 mistakes a game

PS- Next time Zach Lavalle puts up 3 or 4 points for HM, before you scream recruitment, you should know his dad is a graduate.
my daughter is currently a freshman bsm now and i have had two sons go there in the past who are now at college. this year i went to one of the football games and sat next to a parent who had a son that played hockey for edina. he began to tell me of two kids from edina who were on the bantam a team as first years last year who had talked to pauly about playing in certain varsity games this year. i guess those two must be the edina kids he mentioned. and also no laboski does not have any older siblings at benilde

both loboski and moore are not very good but because benilde plays such a weak conference schedule, the coaches can get away with playing these bad kids becasue they still win. Same with Holy Angels. The sad part about this is that i am sure that their are worthy enough juniors that could be playing as much as the freshman and sophmores are, but they dont get the chance because the coach feels he can develop the weaker players over the course of the year and get them to be almost as good as the juniors, while the juniors dont get the time of day, and then next year, they are cut. This is obviously a good method to use when the private shools recruit the freshman. But back to the loboski-moore thing, i watched the oseo benilde game last night and they were absolutely overmatched out there, they couldnt get it out of the zone and they cant forecheck because they are so small and cant take anyone off of the puck. In my opinion, the team looks to suffer when the loboski line was on the ice last night. Im sure they do fine when playing all of the weak teams they play but when they play a good solid team like an osseo, they should not be playing very much or as much as they did last night

sounds like the coach is throwing away these next couple years for a chance to win it all later.... too bad for the kids he is hurting that are juniors and seniors this year

Looks like our freshmen are under attack. I will defend them. Besse is among the leading scorers of all AA players. Moore and Laboski have 5 goals and 7 pts in the last five games. Graham is doing well with lots of minutes at defense.

At least one scout likes three of these players:

I agree with you, I wasn't trying to short out Reno, Mork, or Besse, but rather demonstrate that there are far more talented freshmen than Carney, Moore, and Labosky that should be mentioned on a "top" list. Not to bash those players, for they are getting regular shifts at the AA level, they just aren't as mentionable as the ones that you have listed for example.

This is what happened to me when I was a senior. The coach put me on the 4th line because he wanted a "Pony Line" made up of sophomores, to be 3rd line, preparing them for the following year. The Pony Line center got sick during the state championship (this was NOT Minnesota), so I got to play with his linemates. I scored a goal in the championship game, so I didn't feel too bad about the arrangement after the season was over.

I don't disagree with you about Besse being BSM's only freshmen on the very short list. I would add Lavalle and Osterberg to your short list as well.

I just used the WCHBlog scout's list to remind the other guy who said the Benilde freshmen are "not very good" and are "bad kids" that these guys are actually pretty good players.

Hey BSMHockeysmells

A blog reporter is no scout and if he is he's Moore's uncle. That report has no more credibility than what you and I post on this forum. At least not now that they blew that crap out. Neither is a top 20 freshman. Maybe Labosky. Moore not close.

Remember some freshman are 94s and several of the top ones are. Some are first half 95s. Then comes 90% of the above freshman scoring list. Then comes the fact that 90% of freshman play bantam A (that's where these two should be) where there are also several stronger players. While i'm not naive to the fact that conversations probably happen, you may want to have your facts straight before you throw stones at certain kids and particular programs. In the case of two of these Benilde freshman, they have sibblings attending the school already, neither of whom play hockey. One of these "recruited" hockey players Mom went to BSM and Dad went to Totino, I bet that kid was probably hard for BSM to "recruit." Suprisingly enough, sometimes the good athletes have a family history or certain family beliefs and values that steer them towards a private school.

PS- Next time Zach Lavalle puts up 3 or 4 points for HM, before you scream recruitment, you should know his dad is a graduate.
my daughter is currently a freshman bsm now and i have had two sons go there in the past who are now at college. this year i went to one of the football games and sat next to a parent who had a son that played hockey for edina. he began to tell me of two kids from edina who were on the bantam a team as first years last year who had talked to pauly about playing in certain varsity games this year. i guess those two must be the edina kids he mentioned. and also no laboski does not have any older siblings at benilde

I was talking Besse and Moore, thats why it says two of these kids, referring to the freshman.

Remember some freshman are 94s and several of the top ones are. Some are first half 95s. Then comes 90% of the above freshman scoring list. Then comes the fact that 90% of freshman play bantam A (that's where these two should be) where there are also several stronger players. also benilde's schedule is terrible, look at who besse and these guys score their goals against. sure besse can score a hatrick against spring lake park or stillwater or chisago lakes. but then again who couldn't do that with they had patterson and horn on their line. all you gotta do is sit infront of the net (which besse does plenty of). he only has two goals that aren't cheap ones and those are the ones against edina. look what he does in the close games like osseo (0 points) or hill murray or wayzata. no points in those games either.
