Did you see Sidney Ponson last year? Just in case you forgot...

Anderson won an ERA title as a starter.
You must be thinking of someone else.

He had 2 good seasons back to back and that was it.
He was on the team in '87 and '91.

He must be talking about the taters. Didn't Anderson hold the MLB record for HRs allowed in a season at one point?

No, that was Bert.

Yeah, I knew he holds it now... I don't know why I had that in my head about Anderson. I just looked it up and he was never close.
Nevermind.

MLB.com is reporting that opening pitch is only 3days, 7hours, 7mins away.
Is it too early for a rally thread?

Way too early. Wait until the second inning anyway....

I'm willing to bet we'll need one by the middle of the 1st with Livan on the bump.

Liriano was very sharp today. 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 7 K
I think he'll make the club.

Nope. Not to start the season anyway.
I wouldn't have a problem with this - provided Baker is ok to to go. But based on his injuries/illness this spring and his last start, I don't know that he is. I'm thinking that I would rather have seen them bring Liriano and Blackburn north and let Baker make a couple of more starts in Florida first.

This is one of those careers that just doesn't make any sense. He gets outs and wins over a two year period and then just falls apart.
I don't remember him getting injured but something had to have happened to him physically to disappear so quickly after some great success.

Sports Illustrated's 2008 Forcast
Tigers 90-72
Indians 89-73
White Sox 77-85
Royals 73-89
Twins 72-90
Irishmans Shanty's 2008 Forcast
White Sox 92-70, Someone will surprise CLE & DET, Sox are the best bet
Indians 90-72
Tigers 87-75
Twins 78-84
Royals 75-87
Notes:
Sox made two great aquisitions in O. Cabrera and Swisher. Buerhle, Vazquez, and Contreras are a good trifecta and Linebrink and Dotel will get the game to Jenks. Sox will mash as they will have 7 bats that will have at least 20HR's.
Indians stood pat in not acquiring any new faces for this season. They've just made the same mistake the '06 Central Champs made going into '07.
Tigers should be tough offensively as they are loaded but something will not click with them this year.
KC is still not going to compete for 162 games. They showed some fight last year and they will build on it but will still find themselves in the cellar.

I'll say:
1. Tigers 96-66
2. Indians 92-70
3. White Sox 86-76
4. Twins 81-81
5. Royals 75-87

I like this opening series for the Twins. With Lackey and Escobar on the shelf, the Angels' starting pitching is about as questionable as Minnesota's, so it could be a good litmus test to see if the offense can cash in early. It's an opportunity to potentially do well against a team most "experts" have picked as a division winner.

If this club is to have a chance, they must hang close until Liriano returns to form, which he will eventually.
IMO, the season and the near future of the Twins, from a competetive standpoint, rests with Liriano' s ability to be an ace.

What happened to opening day optimism?
What happened to YES: It Can Happen!
What happened to "We're going to win Twins"?

We love the opening day optimism. It certainly helps as fans drive through the snow storm to get to the game.
I wish I was going tonight but I will have to be content to watch on TV.
I hope the Twins do well. Nothing is more fun than following a winning baseball team thruout the season.
But baseball is 162 games. Weaknesses and flaws in a team always show themselves.
Over the long haul, the Twins can't compete with Det and CLE...........................................well, unless Lirainao is back and pitching great; Mauer hits .350 with 23HRS , Morneau hits 40HRs and 145 RBIs and......... I guess you guys are right.... YES: It Can Happen.

YES: It Can Happen is only available to a team coming from the pack. To crown the Twins today Denny Green would forfeit their YES: It Can Happen eligibility. And we don't want to do that.
