Who cares what metro teams Roseau has beaten? Not all the SUPER teams are from the south. The north has some pretty respectable competition up here as well. Geographically, it doesn't make sense for Roseau or GR or Bemidji, etc.. to head south when there's perfectly good competition up this way. What's beating a team from the metro area have to do with anything? I've seen Roseau play, and they're a high quality team that is very young. I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the State Tourny taking second to GR :D . Where you come from doesn't always dictate how good your team is, and it's a little obnoxious to think just because you're from the metro area that you're automatically better.

'95 Fire vs. Apple Valley PWA

Well I went to see the '95 Fire Vs. Apple Valley PWA tonight at Minnesota Made. I have heard alot about this Fire team how dominate they are so when i heard they were playing AV i had to see it, well i can't lie i didn't give AV much of a chance but boy i was completly suprised at what i was watching. The AV team was not only playing with the Fire they were getting more of the good scoring chances, AV jumped to a 2-0 lead and played some solid team defense and held the Fire scoreless for 48:00 mins.(d6 league games 42mins). Then i watched the Fire coaching staff shorten his bench to about 5 forwards. #9,#12,#3,#8 & #18 are the real deal but after that the Fire is an average team but those 5 are good. At about the 3:00min mark left in the game you could see the AV team was tired and got caught with some long shifts and wouldn't you know it the Fire team got let off the hook by the 5 boys and scored 3 goals in the last 2:56 the game winner with 6 seconds left in the game. Final score '95 Fire-3 AVPWA-2.

OT64 In response to the AV/Fire game: All coaches shorten the bench. I saw AV do that in the EP game (4-4 tie) - #24 and a couple others were out most of the game - without a doubt the bench was shortened. Every good team puts out thier best guys when they need a goal or on a power play/penalty kill, don't they?

From what it sounds like AV played a great game - Not sure if your trying to discredit the coaching staff of the Fire (It kind sounds like you are) That coach is very committed and very good! You should arrange your team to practice with the Fire - Cause they skate & train harder than most teams and don't forget to bring your puke bucket. If I was a PW coach - I would schedule to play the Fire as many times as I could.

I'll make this post legal:

AV 2 95 Fire 3

I saw the game. The Fire was out coached and out played by a shorthanded AV team in a 61 minute stop time game with no breaks. I am certain that the Fire coach was shocked. He had all the advantages (ice, game format, etc) since it was his ice.

I am also certain that before the game he wondered what he would get of playing what to him was probably the equivalent of a "house" team. It is something for parents to consider. The AV players are getting more out of the season then the Fire at one-tenth the cost. I equally certain he will not play a return game. Maybe the Fire should attend the AV practices.

Star- In no way i'm I discredited the fire coaches, It looks like they do a very nice job the kids seem to know there roles and they play very well as a team. I was just trying to let people know that he shorten his bench (nothing wrong with that). If you have seen these 5 boys play you would understand why, they are that good! AV played out of there minds for 48mins and just ran out gas, I would agree that any team would be smart to play the Fire as much as possible, It will only make you better.

by the way whats with I'll make this post legal?

To both Fred and OT: Posting the score was what I meant about being legal...

Anyways, Like I said I am happy to hear that AV played a great game and I DO know ALL to well about the difference between association and teams like the Fire, including the money issue - Thats not why I posted.

It just seem to me that OT 64 was taking a bit of a "jab" at the coach about the bench shortening - Did I take it wrong? maybe. But not sure why you had to bring it up in the first place...Since I know the coach from the Fire pretty good, I thought it I should say something. I do have to give "props" to a few of the kids on the AV team that I know - They play, practice hard and are extremely talented. AND I give "props" to the 5 Fire guys you mentioned, plus I could name a few others who are deserving. It was a great game and your right about playing the Fire more - It just makes your team better.

Fred why were they shorthanded? 1 PENALTY for the whole game. AV played a very good game and the Fire played a not so great game.
The fire moved 3 defensemen up and 3 forwards back in the 3rd period
and only shortend the bench for a couple shifts to get the win. sounds like good coaching to me. I personally give alot of credit to AV coaches for scouting the fire over the weakend and making adjustments.
the FIRE BOYS will learn that when they play association teams they have to be prepared for these teams stepping up there game and not to take them lightly. the AV goalie did a great job of closing the door in the 1st period, the puck was in his end for most of that time.
anyway congrats to AV for playing a good game and to the fire for a nice
comback for the win.

The Apple Valley team was short handed because they had lost a player on Friday and had another injured. The latter player played, but that left them with only two plus lines to play a 61 minute stop time game (essentially one extra period over a normal D6 game). The Fire coach had to keep his first line out at the end of the game, the other lines were getting hammered by the AV players.

It was a good game, one of the best I have seen.

Hobey Faker - Relax with the personal attack. How come you have to use that excuse about the "Fire not playing well" - I have heard that several times from the Fire faithful.

Hey, it was a great game and I am a big fan of the Fire, but that excuse is getting really old..

I was also at this game last night. It was my impression that AV played vey well, and that the Fire played very well. This was a fun game to watch 3-17 stop periods and to see the AV team hold a very strong offesive team scoreless for 48 of the 51 minutes was impressive(av goalie played great). Both the '95 Fire and AV had numerous scoring chances and both teams goalies made some big saves. Overall best game i've seen this year. Good Luck to both teams in your Holiday Tournaments.

Who else is tired of hearing about the AAA Fire? If any of the other MN Hockey Districts pulled their top 15 skaters and 2 goalies together on one team, Peewee A or Bantam A, they would blow the Fire out. End of story.

the fire is nothing more than the holy angels of youth hockey. we have to live with those teams in highschool we could just as well learn to beat them now.
