Yes that is true; that's why people don't like HM, Edina, East, etc...

However, I do not dislike the Yanks for being successful; nor do I hate the Canadians for that reasoning either. Plus I am a Wings fan as well. They're among the greatest sports franchises in the world; which is why so many fans hate them.

BUT I do dislike the Yanks because:
1. The Twins have a V E R Y hard time beating them. It's very frustrating.
2. They spend money like it's a bodily function so they mostly always have a stacked line up.
3. Most Yankee fans (not including you... I think  ) are arrogant, d-bags.

1. Very true. :D
2. Sort of true, though they have developed their share of stars through the system over the years, and locking people up to 10-year, trillion-dollar contracts does have its downsides. And they do draw in the most revenue of any team, and have owners who have been very committed (sometimes too committed...) to putting a good product on the field. (Contrast that with the Twins during the Pohlad years; the guy was many times richer than the Steinbrenners, but put very little into his team.)
3. Also very true.

I was first going to say all MN teams are like that; however, Ziggy did sign Minnesota Chubby and some other higher paid players for the Vikings. So they're turning around along with the Twinkies (don't get me started on Mauer though #-o ).

The Wild on the other hand don't splurge at all. They either don't spend the money or no high profile players are interested in playing for them. That's MN sports for you...

Here's the Minnesota Chubby reference. Go to the 1:00 min mark. I know you'll enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGXynFrkTcQ

Well, at least Chubby almost got you to a Super Bowl. Almost.

The Twins this season are perfect proof of what Yankees fans have been learning over the past decade: money does not buy wins. Of course some of the signings work out, but a lot of these stars exhaust their good years in the first two years of their 5-year deals, and then you're left with an expensive, useless, aging player that no one else wants.

Win or lose, I actually really don't care about the Vikings. Matter-of-fact I only watch football for my fantasy team. Hockey, golf, and baseball for me.

I was merely painting a picture of how MN teams were/are not forking over more $$ like some other franchises. No biggie though.

As for the the Yanks and Twins comparison, I can see where you are going; however, the Yanks are #1 and the Twins are #9 according to this year in payroll. And NY is forking over almost 100 million bucks more. So I wouldn't say they (the Twins) are the perfect proof... yet; however, I do see where you are going.

Here is my reference to that stat: http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/ ... aries/team

And as for the comment: money does not buy wins... Well, it does give the team a WAY better chance. The Yanks are always expected to make the playoffs, and they are always in the World Series talk as well because of the players they sign. So money does have a factor, but I bet you already know that.

Now if you would excuse me, I have a tornado to watch. Metro Madness!

No real disagreement here. My comment on the Twins was more to point out how far they've come. I don't have the exact numbers, but 5-10 years ago they had one of the very lowest payrolls in the majors, and now they're in the upper third, and they're not really doing any better.

I saw some of the reports of tornado damage in the Cities last night--anything around you?

5-10 years ago they were paid like AAA ball players because they played like AAA ball players... MN almost lost the team as well because they were doing so poorly on the field and in the stands. Now days MN is forking over more $$ because they have the talent and fan base; however, like what you stated before, that doesn't always mean that team will be successful.

As for the tornado, I was not hit by it nor was my neighborhood damaged by the storm. I just had a lot of rain, some hale, and gusts of wind. My county was under tornado warning for a good 45 minutes, but nothing came in my direction. The initial tornado did hit North Minneapolis for a good 35 minutes though. I read this morning there was one confirmed death, dozens were injured, and hundreds are homeless. It also appears a part of MO was hit hard as well by a storm; 89 confirmed deaths in Mizzou... :(

The Twins have been good for about a decade now. 2002 was the only time they've made it out of the division series since they moved to the 3-round playoff format, and their payroll was near the bottom that year: http://www.baseballchronology.com/Baseb ... ayroll.asp
They've been moving up since, but they were very good for a few years in the early 00s with a tiny payroll.

Glad to hear the tornado missed you. The news coming out of Missouri is scary. Here in Duluth we got a ton of rain. (I'm home for the summer now.)

Also, I know next to nothing about wrestling, but the death of anyone who could pull off some of those outfits is a definite loss for the world.

Are you kidding me?

You don't know who the "Macho Man" Randy Savage is?

Karl... come on, buddy.

I also know barely anything about wrestling, but I did know who the Macho Man was. Just based on commercials, cameos, and some TV clips.

On another note, good to hear you're back in Duluth. How did your finals go?

It's time for some rest and relaxation for you, sir.

Family Radio ministry, the people that are condoning and predicting this crap, are a bunch of misanthropic a-holes that have no clue what they are doing. They are already 0 for 2 on their dates, and come October they will be 0 for 3.

People keep getting more crazy by the day... :?

I've definitely heard of Macho Man, and probably seen him in many things; just never put it all together.

Finals went well. Not all the grades are in yet, but I'm satisfied with the ones I've seen. And as much as I enjoy DC, it's always nice to come home to the quiet routine of Duluth. I've slept incredibly well ever since coming home. (Despite of the threat of the world ending...)

You'd think that if God were going to put an end to the world, he'd have the good sense to wait until after the State Tourney.

Don't worry, I'll keep the secret that you just posted on a public forum. :P

Also, you have my blessing to yell at starmvp via PM. Seriously, he's slacking. Development is a year-round commitment. We can't have rusty posters at the start of next season.

Went golfing today for the 4th time this year.

Shot a 75 at Hillcrest. I am quite satisfied with that score, especially it only being my 4th round this year.

Anyone else hit the links this year?
