Score from Tuesday November 30:

Edina-5
Prior Lake-1

The Hornets opened with a goal in the first minute of play when an alert Hornet forward took the puck at the top of the faceoff circle, spotted a Hornet wing sitting on the X-spot (goalies weak side on the pipe’s corner-so named because at the peewee level you draw an X on the spot and find a wing constantly sitting on it), and instead of shooting passed the puck to the wing for an easy goal. It was a nice play. It was the only nice play that the Hornets made with five Lakers on the ice for the rest of the game. For the rest of the first period, the Lakers pressured the Hornets and kept them inside their defensive zone. The period ended with the score 1-0. It was fast paced and cleanly skated.

In the opening minutes of the period 2, the Lakers had a one man and then a two man advantage (for thirty seconds) power play advantage, but could not generate a jpressure against the short handed Hornets.

But The Lakers kept the pressure on the Hornets and tied the game 1-1 on a lucky shot that climbed the Edina goalie’s shoulder and came down just inside the upper left corner of the net. Less than a minute later, the Lakers drew a penalty and did a good job killing the penalty until the Laker goalie gambled on stopping a Hornet forward on a break away by challenging the forward about 3 feet outside the side of the crease. The Hornet forward deked the goalie out and slid the puck around him into an empty net. Again a nice play.

With less then a minute to go in the second period, another Laker penalty resulted in another Edina power play goal. The period ended 3-1 with the Lakers having dominated 5 on 5 play in the first two periods down.

Edina drew a penalty in the first minute of the third period and again the Lakers could not mount a good power play. But Edina could mount a good power play and with the Lakers down a man a few minutes later, the Hornets added their third power play goal to put the game away 4-1 with 8 minutes to go. Late in the third the Hornets scored a fifth goal when the Laker goalie gambled again and lost.

For most of the game, Prior Lake dominated the Hornets holding them inside their defensive zone. But they had no “go to guy” that could score as the Edina defense compacted low in their defensive zone to minimize the Laker opportunities down low. The Hornet’s “go to guy” was the referee. The Hornets scored three power play goals out of five power play opportunities. They move the puck well on the power play and that is the Hornets strength at this point in the season.

Wow, where do I begin. Here we go again with Fred putting down Edina, his least favorite team. If I remember right, he barely gave them credit last year for winning the whole thing. I saw the game tonight and to say PL outplayed Edina 5 on 5 is a total joke, I bet the shots were 2 to 1 in favor of Edina and they had the territorial advantage most of the time. By the way Fred, from my count the penalties were 6 for each team, hardly and advantage for Edina. Also, I thought the calls were good calls on both teams. If you going to keep evaluating these games, please do them justice and keep your dislike for Edina out of it. Better yet, why don't you just stop going to the Edina games, since you seem to hate them anyway.

Wow! Intheknow, it appears that you don't know what you don't know. Ever hear of the oft-quoted adage, "Humble in victory, gracious in defeat." You could eat a little humble pie and simply take the position that the score speaks for itself. A 4-goal differential speaks volumes. But no, instead you fell into the proverbial trap of letting your ego get the best of you. Here's some unsolicited advice: Suck it up and savor the victory.

As for your comments about Fred, in case you haven't paid attention, he is almost universally respected on this board. As for you, well the best that can be said about you is that you are entitled to express your own ungracious opinions. You, sir, give Edina a bad name.

To the Edina players who earned this victory, nice job, boys. To the Prior Lake team, keep working hard. Remember, two years ago this group of Prior Lake players topped Edina when it really mattered and won the District 6 Squirt A Championship game.

Fred, I enjoy reading your posts. Keep up the good--unpaid--work.

Choice, I was not trying to gloat about a win, I was pointing out facts. If you look back on Fred's posts that involve Edina, he is usually over critical of them or gives them a backhanded slam of some sort. I have no problem with him reviewing games, but do them accurately with out bias towards one team. If he can't do that, then he should not do them. I don't have an ego here, I just get a little tired of him ripping Edina all the time.
