Knew about the other four, but Hinz is a surprise. Thought he was back at North St. Paul this year...

The choice to go play for Russell Stover seems very obvious to those who are not in a metro area or not in a single team town.

The mission of the Russell Stover Tier I hockey program is two-fold. 1) to develop the player both on and off the ice into a mature adult with a well rounded academic background that is capable of playing hockey at the next level. 2) provide the necessary exposure for the player to showcase his talents to junior and college hockey scouts.

Aside from two NHL sheets of ice in their home rink, Russell Stover Hockey players workout in an in-rink state-of-the-art work out facility. The Blue Valley and Olathe school districts are among the finest school districts in the nation. Johnson County, where nearly ever player will be billeted, is among the nicest and most affluent counties in the United States.

Russell Stover Hockey’s inclusion in the Tier 1 Hockey League further ensures it will compete against the highest caliber competition in the nation while being heavily scouted by junior and college hockey programs. Last year Russell Stover beat Shattuck Saint Mary’s.

You’ll NEVER get any of that playing for Rochester Century because they only develop their 3rd and 4th lines, not their top level players. The coaching at Century are incapable of developing a top-level hockey program or their top-level players. (Not that the coaches are bad people, they just aren't good hockey coaches.)

The Stover coaches are excellent leaders, well respected by players and the entire hockey community because of their proven track records, not by having a gift of talented players (like Century has had). The Stover coaching team has worked hard to develop their players. They run a very tight ship, with little tolerance for nonsense. The players know the are there to work hard (in school and at hockey), learn, and excel in preparation for the next level.

When considering that you can’t move to another Minnesota high school without sitting out for a year, you have no choice but to stay in a program that does NOTHING to grow top players or leave the state.

Century or Stover, easy, Stover wins hands down. However, if you’re privileged enough to be on a metro team or on a 1 team town, you probably have no reason to leave, you demand much more out of your coaching and the players.

Is it time for AAA 18U to hit Minnesota? Maybe.

crazy4 GC you are spot on the Stover program is on the right track not only to advance players to the next level but coaches as well. Head coach U18 is now at Western Mich. and U16 coach is now Omaha Lancer Asst coach in USHL, As far as players; 4 from U18 team are now on USHL rosters and 2 from U16 as well. I Think you are right Mn may want to consider getting a U16 and U18 team into the Tier 1 mwhel . The larger schools may have no draw but there are many small program that good players would benefit from these teams.

the city of rochester could support one, no need for mn hockey as these kids are beyond association.

This would be could for the elite player of non metro or northern powerhouse assocations. Note, good for the player, so hold off on the bad for the high school team. Minnesota would field a very good team. Easy drive for mom and dad to visit, lower cost, and home more often.

Rochester or St Cloud either would be good location.

Nick Hinz leaving No. St. Paul is a real loss to that team. He is a good sized offensive defenseman with a lot of speed and skill. Joe Rubbelke, Nick Hinz and Zac McCarver were way ahead of anybody else that they had. Rubbelke graduated and Hinz leaving for Fairbanks doesn't leave much behind. Did anyone tell him there are few places on earth colder than winter in Fairbanks, Alaska?

Interesting choice. We've heard of kids going to the USHL and NAHL but OJHL is a new one this year. Wonder what's behind the choice as I'll guess he may have had an opportunity for the USHL and NAHL too. Better chance to be drafted by a NHL team? 31 teams in the OJHL.

where did EJ Faust play high school? never heard the name

Faust has played for the following associations/teams:

Minnetonka - through 6th grade
Eden Prairie - 7th and 8th grade
Shattuck - 9th and 10th grade
Blake - 11th grade

Are these typical numbers for kids leaving for juniors? Back in the day it would be just a few going to the Vulcans. Hope it's not a growing trend.....

Jake Horton off to a fast start with Janesville... four points in three games is good for 3rd on his team. Hesse also has a couple of points in his first three games.

Plenty of graduated players near the top of the scoring list too.

Looks like Vince Pedrie will head to Russell Stover soon.

Matt Benolkin, Holy Angels junior, is already there.
