How in the world can you say that they wouldn't have won section 5? THEY BEAT THE SECTION 5 CHAMPS!

Because, say they were in section 5. They would have been seeded 4th or 5th. They would have had to beat Osseo then Blaine and then either Maple Grove or Centennial. There goalie would not be able to stay hot enough to carry them past all 3 of those opponents
Can I ask what brand of crystal ball you're using that allows you to say that Gretz wouldn't have been able to play well enough?

And may I ask you to tell me what seed AV was in their section??? I think it was 4th... which according to you would be no different then if they were in a different section.

You're right, it was 4th.

What does that have to do with anything?

So you are telling me that Eagan, Cretin and Woodbury are better than Blaine, Centennial, and Maple Grove

I'm telling you that when it mattered Apple Valley was Blaine. So who they played in sections is irrelevant. Would you be saying the same thing if Apple Valley and Blaine switched sections and both still made it to state?

Hey so since you are a fortune teller can you tell me how long I will live? Will the Vikes win a SuperBowl in my lifetime? Please I would love to know.

I would gladly provide the top high schools hockey teams to Class A and AA State Tournament. Where do I sign up?

I've got an even better way... just do a 64 team tournament, then the 8 teams that are playing the best will make it to state!

Yes!

Because if the two of you draw up the seedings, in your great wisdom I know you will be able to guarantee none of the 8 teams playing the best hockey come playoff time will possibly face each other before the quarterfinals!

We have the solution!

as good as your idea sounds... i was thinking more using a system like page stat

And doing it this way, who knows maybe one year Roseau, Moorhead, Duluth East, and Elk River all make it to the X. And then another year none of them do or maybe only one

8 sections. Right around 8 teams in each section.

Sound familiar?

I'm sorry I don't think you're following me... there wouldn't be any sections just one big bracket of 64 teams and then once you got to 8 you would go to the X and also anyone could play anyone in the earlier rounds it wouldn't matter where you're from

And then we're talking about teams getting automatic births for winning their conferences? And there's bubble teams! And then we can get everything right because there will never be an upset and we'll always seed teams right!

Or maybe we could have a state championship where we just pick the top 2 teams from how well they've played the rest of the year and we can just seed them in and then we could have games for the rest of the teams at selected arenas where they could host the game and get sponsorship and sell TV coverage and advertising and maybe we could even have a parade to go along with some of them where everything's made out of flowers... Sounds like a great system to me!

I'm sorry but some people need to just realize there is no perfect system and someone's always going to complain.

you're right there are not perfect systems, but there are better ones.

i'd like to see a plan that got the best teams to state. the idea of getting representation from all parts of the state sounds great but its not promoting the best hockey. A State Hockey Tournament should be able to get teams that are all rated in the top twenty in its class. better yet go to a single class.

Single class with a set-up like the NCAA basketball tourney.[That way Hermantown can beat Hill]

Maybe if a team pulled an upset in sections (like say a #4 beats #1 in the semifinals), there could be some sort of punishment for depriving us the opportunity of seeing the 'best' teams at the state tourney

This year there were 2 sections without a team ranked in the top 12 in them. It would be one thing if every section had a team in the top 10-12 in it and there was an upset. But that wasn't the case this year in sections 1 and 3

Let it go man...spend some of this time and energy on a hobby. Rankings aren't everything; just ask Kansas!!!

I just want to know who your team is so I know who is to blame for all your whining and complaining.

Don't have one. Just go to the games every year and am kind of getting sick of not seeing the best teams there

Well then you should go to the section games instead because according to you thats where the best teams are. I enjoy the section games at the colliseum, marriucci/target center just as much as the games at the X. I like how its done and so do many others... you don't like how its done just like some other folks. Nothing is going to change our minds nor the minds of the people who make the decisions, so we might as well leave it at that.
