25 of 124 teams changing coaches this year (so far). Amazing turnover. Sadly only 4 of the 20 new coaches named to-date are female.

We are looking for qualified female coaches in our youth association and at our local high schools but they aren't hiding behind every rock and tree.
Hockey has only been a girls varsity sport since 95 and many of those first upperclassmen were not experienced players. The underclassmen from those years grew into good players but if you think about it, many of them are now recent college grads, getting married and starting families. I think in 5 years there will be a much larger pool of female ex-players that will get into coaching.

GHS - the interesting part to me, is there were a good number of quality female coaches who have been groomed to be a future head coach, and many see the time commitment, constant negative feedback, and overall investment for the money and choose to do something else. I'd say we've raised most of our young ladies too smart to be a head coach.

Rocket 78 - Where do you get your information? I don't believe the Dodge County position has been officially opened yet by the cooperating schools, and the change is probably coming from within for just one year.
Probably should leave this one alone until official word has been released.
Head Coaching

I would agree that female coaches are just too smart and see that the costs outweigh the benefits of being a head coach.
I would not recommend taking a head coaching job to my worst enemy, in any sport, especially hockey! I think what these female coaches have figured out that it is much more satisfying to be an asst coach. You get to coach, help young people develop, often times have closer more meaningful relationships and more fun. Sure you get a little less money (most don't do it for the money anyway) but you avoid all of the hassles. No meetings with annoying parents, no booster meetings, no meetings with the AD about playing time, no youth hockey issues, etc. Avoiding all of these hassles is "priceless"!
It would be great to have more female head coahes but I think this trend will continue. They are just too darn smart and they don't need to feed their enormous egos like the men.

I have a family member looking at applying for their JV baseball job and they told me about this. It looks pretty officially open to me.

Although the above quote it wrong....Cloquet did conduct interviews the week prior to the one mentioned above.
Cloquet hired former girls assistant Mike Bushey as their new head coach. All that is needed now is school board approval.

26 of 124, 21% so far.
Past seasons:
ghshockeyfan wrote:allhoc11 wrote:That makes 4 so far, I know GHS used to put together a list of openings, and it seemed that about 20% of jobs opened each season. It seems like the turnover in girls has been down the last couple years, and up in boys, although I have no concrete data to support. It just seems more stable the past two off-seasons.
Here's the 2009 off-season thread for openings coming into the 2009-10 season:
http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19699
Never really captured anything from the end of filling posiitons in 2007 (headed into 2007-8 thru the above)
And here was the thread with 2004-2007 openings (heading into the 2004-5 through 2007-8 seasons):
http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9456
From 2004-2006:
2006 = 32 of 124 jobs opened this year (25.8%)
2005 = 25 of 122 jobs opened this year (20.5%).
2004 = 21 of 122 jobs opened this year (17.2%).
.
.
.
I haven't followed as closely, but the turnover seems to be down. This is good for the game.

Should be interesting to see how the coaching changes play out this season. The Northwest Suburban should be quite interesting with 5 coaching changes and one from within the conference. Excited for the action to start soon. Thoughts?
