HOLLYWOOD, Ca-20th Century Fox announced today that the The Glen Mason Story: A Leader of Men is being re-titled to The Tallest Midget Since Warmath: The Glen Mason Story
Stacy Keech (Mike Hammer), agreed in principal to play a minor role in the feature film. Keech will portray the legendary University of Minnesota hockey coach, Brad Beutow. In addition, Gordon Jump has been offered the role of Nils Haselmo, University of Minnesota president. Jump accepted the position after it was turned down by Vic Tayback (Alice). Chi McBride (Boston Public, Gone in Sixty Seconds) has also signed on, he will play McKinley Boston, an embattled assistant athletic director at the University.
FOX also noted that Michael Richards (Seinfeld, The Michael Richards Show) is no longer be targeted for the role of Joel Maturi, University Athletic Director.

Dan Monson- What happened?
He started the Gonzaga program that is a Top 25 team today year in and year out. What happened to the Gophs? I know he had the probation or w/e to deal with, but we just lost to some Merri college.

Not only did they loose, but they were down 14 before they somewhat made a charge. Secondly, they only muscled out 56 points against Marist. How are they going to score 40 against teams like WI or MSU that really get after it on D?
Looked like Danny was turning the corner with them two years ago but now they are worse than the "Humphries squad". More bad news, some of the recent bottom feeders in the league are turning the corner. Purdue has already beaten Oklahoma and DePaul while the U is loosing to Winona and Marist.

ER, you ask a good question.
I will tell you what I have heard from people 'in the know' about Monson.
Just like Wacker in football, you couldnt find a better candidiate to be the head coach. Young guy who took a program no one ever heard of and turned it into a program that gets into the NCAA tourament.
Great success story.
The Gonzaga team looks like a crack military drill team. They beat bigger schools with excellent team play. They are strong academically and good citizens.
And a fine young man by the name of Dan Monson is responsible for all of this....right? Lets bring him to the U and see what he can do with a huge Big Ten University behind him. How can it miss?
The 'word' is that Monson was not the guy responsible for all of the Zags success. There were some oustanding assistants that didnt come with him. Also, Monson didnt recruit the kids, somebody else did.
Its what Ive heard and thats all there is to it. Cant prove a word.
It makes some sense since Gonzaga hasnt exactly gone into the tank the way MN has since Monson left/came.

Ah, that makes a LOT more sense now PB. I didn't understand how he couldn't do what he did there or even come close to it, especially since he has more resources. He got a gift in Humphries opting out of Duke and them letting him come clean, besides that he hasn't done much.

I'm really excited to see Danny and the Boys hit the court tonight. This will be the first of their final three national broadcasts of the year. Wow, where did this season go? It's still November.

They have 2 already and they have 23 chances left.
I see 3 more wins before conference, I see 3-4 wins in the conference to get them to 8 or 9. Sad as it is, 10 looks too high. Winona, Marist, Montana and a 14 point lead at home to a lower division Big 12 team have been too much to handle thus far.
How long into the broadcast tonight before we get a flashback of the epic '97 Sweet Sixteen double OT thriller between these currently sputtering programs?

Hopefully many, because that season is the last fond memory I have of the basketball program. They played second to none on my list of favorite teams after that. Sadly, since then it has been all scandal, selfish players, and mediocrity.Irishmans Shanty wrote:

The year no longer exists and neither does the coaching tenure of Dan Monson. It has been announced that he resigned.

The game last night was a microcosm of the Monson Era. Flashes of competitiveness, out talented, and in the end a decisive loss. Though the score was 20-18 at one time you could see Clemson was carrying the play and dictating the pace of the game.

OK, we were glad to get rid of Dutcher. Haskins had to go and now Monson is gone, thank goodness.
We talk about how Minnesota may have some issues that prevent Mason or anyone else form building a power program. I think I convinced everybody that Glen the Great should be anointed Coach for Life so that issue is settled.
But what about basktball. Can we win without rapists and Ganngelhoff?

Yesterday Munson said he did what he was asked to do. I believe him, he was brought here to restore credibility off the court. The wins were of secondary importance to the powers at hand at that time.
Almost every team has some criminal element to it, recruiting it and controlling it can be done.

Steve Lavin - Slick hair and UCLA job makes him look like a West Coast guy. Not the case, he learned under Keaty, he's a big 10 guy who wants back in.
