Agreed, & someone just reminded me that the duo of Eagan goaltenders will still torment opponent through next year - I forgot how young they were (Altman & Grogan)... Absolutely amazing...

WOW, you are something else. Yes, several D1 colleges and yes there most likely are better D out there than Holmes but that does not mean that D1 colleges are not interested. When she goes D1 I will make sure you know.

I think you would find alot of people that would definately not agree with that statement.
Holmes made no impact in the Alex vs Crookston matchup, while wheelhouse and wangen did, both offensively and defensively!
I believe Holmes is a JUNIOR, while wheelhouse is a soph. and wangen a freshman.

With Irondale's record being so much better than any of their other seasons and in watching some of their games, I would have to think that the two junior captains; Rachel Gates-Vickery (defense) and Nicole Olson (Forward) should be considered. Both these players have played varsity since 8th grade and it shows!

I agree.......Olson is a sniper and I think she likes to bounce em in off the pipe cause she likes the way it sounds. Gates-Vickery is the consummate
defensive D. Both have helped form Irondale's best team ever. But it is a team and the younger players (McDonald, Lorence) coupled with D1 Udvig and Bruschun the goalie (7 shutouts) have all made it possible.
Not sure how good they really are but I do think they can skate with anybody in their section which bodes well for a possible state appearance.

Shescores...You are correct - it is a TEAM effort which sometimes people don't notice, but I like what you said about being a TEAM. However, the topic is juniors and the others you mentioned are seniors and freshmen.

Thank you HOCKEYFANCY!!! I have always read posts on this site and only now have I chosen to register. I have had the opportunity to coach Nicole Olson in the youth program and have followed her hockey career even though my work has transferred me out of state this past year. She is the most coachable athlete I have ever known. She could easily be the best scorer on any given team, yet is the most unselfish player on the ice. She is a leader on and off the ice and out of all the coaching I have ever done, I would give anything to have players like her under my direction....great kid and an outstanding fastpitch player and hockey player. Again - thank you HOCKEYFANCY for mentioning her!

I just read that Danielle Justice from Alexandria was named the Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Girls Hockey. In 3 wins Danielle has stopped 73 of 75 shots. Also, that her team mate Abby Williams was the same award winner from the week before. It's nice to see these wonderful young ladies being recognized as they are not the personality types to toot their own horns or brag. I don't think they read these posts so if you see them feel free to congratulate them.

I just wanted to comment on this and say that it's truly amazing when you can mesh younger & older players within a community and find great team cohesion that propels that team to levels of success never before achieved.

Keep in mind though that it is indeed a TEAM effort. Either group w/o the other likely wouldn't be anywhere near as successful alone as they are TOGETHER!!!

This is one of the most valuable "Life Lessons" that I think sport can teach us all. That and dealing with adversity, the reward (or lack thereof) even when you give something your all (no guarantees, but give it your best and see what happens - have no regrets), and also the ability to find common ground even when it seems there's none possible, etc., etc.

I went through the list of 11th graders and I want to add an unheralded player. Erin Babineau of Roseville. She's little, but she has battled and won against all the seniors and juniors mentioned in all the blogs. You can not get her off the puck, and you will not beat her one on one. She plays on the line with Erin Cody, and she does all the grunt work. I don't know why she is overlooked, because if you ever see Roseville play, you can't not notice her.

Danny Welsch from Hastings is a player. She has all the tools and is a finisher. She is fun to watch.

Agree about Babineau. Teams are always better with players like her. But typically the only players that really get pub are the ones that get in the boxscore. People who know hockey appreciate players like Babineau. Defenders are typically somewhat ignored as well. CDH has a defender who if she played center would lead their team in scoring by a mile.

ok i have to add a player that surprisingly hasn't been mentioned yet... Taylor Jenkins from Austin

she's a junior in top ten for points, leading her team to state this year, and is one of the best in southern minn. and maybe the state, she probably hasn't been noticed because of not being from a metro school but she does deserve some recognition

I agree with you comments on Taylor Jenkins. Another overlooked player is Nara Higano, junior defense at Rochester Mayo.

I agree with Tigerpower on Taylor Jenkins, and what makes this special, is that I never agree with tigerpower.

Nara Higano is also good, if I have the right number, I believe she is #24.

Actually, if you look back through this thread I believe she is mentioned. And if not I have seen her in others. Excellent offensive player and great kid too!

I'm assuming that this list contains many of the frontrunners for Ms. Hockey 2008...

im sure she's already been mentioned a few times, but Danielle Justice from Alex... she posted 50 (:shock: ) saves against Hibbing before losing in OT
and the next game having 30?ish shots, also losing in OT

solid goaltender, had a great show at the State tourney
