Technically this would be an Early Arrival...
Have a suspicion Gunderson of OMG will forgo his 2nd year of Bantams and play Varsity for the Crimson this upcoming season.

Garrett Pinoniemi sounds like he’s playing USHL this year. Tough loss for Holy Family.

Doesn't mean too much. Brandon Reller was with the Spokane Chiefs this past week. Hogg's stock (in the junior/major junior circuit) dropped a bit with his Hlinka play. The rights acquisition seems to contradict previous statement. However Red Deer has 2 decent 18 year old goalies including starter Ethan Anders. Backup Byron Fancy is no slouch either. Would be surprised to seeing any thing done now. After the season is anyone's guess.

If he is looking to raise his stock as a NHL goalie though, moving to juniors is 100% the right move. Major juniors is a whole different game though. No college hockey, etc. What's left to prove in high school? ** Note** He isn't draft eligible until 2021.

Sophomore - Justin Janicke

Healthy balance of 2 D / 2 F / 1 G

Am I missing anyone?

All about the quality and reliability of the post. Timing is worthless if it’s inaccurate :)

Can eliminate this possible early depart for now ...

Hearing from reliable sources- as of present , Oberle planning before and after only , with Magicians . Looking forward to seeing him back in Pio uni, and may be persuaded by mid Dec to move them into my top 10

That’s too bad. What kind of team the Elks going to have this year? 5-8 seed or possible 3/4 seed. How was the kids leaving early numbers before the latest coach took over.

goldy313 wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2019 11:55 pm There are lots of research showing how a student leaving high school a semester early to participate in spring practice shows more harm than good. Phillip Nelson may be the poster child of this in Minnesota high school football. When you get to hockey most of the “research” comes from USA hockey which is administratively biased against the MSHSL. And of course biased to their leagues.

As for Duluth East, one year is not a trend. Nor is two or even three. Playing I. St Paul in March is far better than playing a NH3HL, or for the most part in NAHL team.

Apples and oranges.

Don’t compare NA3 and the NAHL. The latter is a pay for play league. 1 in 500 will play D1 hockey. In the NAHL - it’s common to see 3-6 or more D1 commits and the rest play D3 hockey. As a Magicians fan - they consistently have 6-10 D1 kids every year. Last 3 goalies were nhl draft picks. There is no fees to play in the NAHL. On certain teams - less revenue squads - players pay $200 month billet fees.

Compare it to the BCHL. THE AJHL and SJHL are also similar.

The USHL is the only league on its own where players don’t pay anything for ANYTHING. All gear is included. Billet fees paid by team. A lot more revenue than the NAHL and anywhere else.

I saw a ton of NHL scouts / and D1 guys at Magician games this year. Only a few at Blaine games presumably to only see Brodzinski.

My two cents

It's starting to feel more and more that HS hockey will continue to lose more and more talent to early departures that I had hoped for the past several seasons. While it's still hanging on to most - and I could be wrong - but it feels like there's been an acceleration of players leaving early although I don't have any data to back it up. Maybe I'm just more aware of it since I started visiting here and it's a false perception. Hopefully.

I agree that it feels that way, but when looking back at the lists posted here over the last 4-5 years there has fairly consistently been about 12-13 early departures every year with the number being greater than that if you look back 5+ years ago (assuming the lists are accurate). Based on what's already posted for this year and the other recently confirmed early departures it appears we're headed to about that 12-13 level again, but maybe a few more based on those who there is still some uncertainty about?

If you look just at the list and not the comments, last years list is off because Jack Jensen and Aaron Hulglen both came back and played for there senior season last year and the list has them as departed Early , Idk about previous lists I have not looked at them recently.

The sky was falling in early 2000s and here we are, all these years later, and it never happened. As pointed out, there hasn't been a mass exodus. So yes, I think you have a false perception.
