One thing I'm curious of, is East being such a high profile program, why don't they have more audio or video streaming? Does the FAN in Duluth carry any of their games. Seems it is always the opponents coverage when they are online.

Duluth East is not a fan of having their games on the internet or on TV. Their AD thinks it takes away from putting butts in the stands. That is why they are hardly ever on the local hockey broadcasts on My9 and on iFan.

They used to get tons of radio coverage back in the mid-late 80s, enough that WEBC (or was it KDAL?) was once dubbed the "Duluth East Hockey Network" by some. I don't know what the Fan does anymore because I basically ignore AM radio.

Radio does not have the staff and or resources to do much anymore. Certainly not like they did in the 80's. Trust me, radio and TV want to cover East hockey, but they do need to get to go-ahead from the AD to do so. Currently, that is an issue.
I don't mean to nit-pick, but the Fan is on FM in Duluth now. 92.1

No problemo. I realized this after I posted (also meant to say mid-90's rather than mid 80-s) but I was too lazy to go back and correct it.

Yup tough week for the hounds. Hopefully they can turn it around this week. Atleast STMA isn't a section game anymore.

Tough day for the big three of 7AA, not to often they all lose on the same day. ER was missing three key players and needed their goalie to be at his best. Of great concern is the Murray injury as they move forward.

For East one has to wonder if they are going to repeat last year. Still, are they playing with fire hoping to get a repeat season? They have a rivalry game against Marshall at Amsoil Arena on Wednesday that will be streamed on ifan.tv. I listened to a little of the Elk River game last night, Jack Perbix sounds like a player that has skill beyond his years and overall the Elks played an uptempo game and didn't give up when they were down 4-0.
Of course we look forward to the Edina Classic, but for GR/ER, that 6:00 game on Saturday is in bold print. Prime opportunity Saturday given East's current struggles to control own destiny for the 1 seed.

ER gave 3 goals on like the first 6 shots, Meyers will be better. Missing Scwab and Murray not ideal. The younger Perbix has a chance to pick up the slack with Murray out indefinitely. Best chance for a win at the Classic may be the Edina game.

What are the details on the Murray injury? Even short handed it really felt like The River held their own in this one...minus on the scoreboard. Not like goals count for anything. They let Mr. Hockey run wild. How tall is that kid, anyways? I would like to see more effort containing him the second time around. (Easily said from the stands while I eat popcorn.) Elks showed some character not letting the foot off the gas pedal even when behind by 3 or 4.
Looking forward to the Edina Classic. Will ER and GR go 0-3 and 1-2 respectively, again?

Has anyone watched Andover, Forest Lake, or Duluth Marshall. On Marshall, do they have all their guys back yet? Forest Lake just got steamrolled by Moundsview so it seems like they are destined for a 7 seed or worse. Andover played East close and I know they play Cloquet on Saturday which is a game that will probably help sort out 4/5, maybe 6 depending on what kind of a team Marshall proves to be.

FYI, not hockey related, but it is going on the same weekend as Semi-Final Saturday in Duluth:

Centennial 5-3 over East.
Anyone have the battle for the 6 seed, Andover vs Forest Lake?

After what East did last year I'll never again count them out no matter what seed they are. Can't go by momentum either, that is overrated. When Rapids went to state in 2007 they stumbled through the end of the regular season including a tie with Denfeld and were the 3 seed. Last season Duluth East was stumbling much like they are now but much deeper into the season. This year it does seem to favor GR given Rapids hasn't had a head scratching loss and it seems they have the depth and goaltending to avoid that. Elk River looks like they are a worthy opponent in 7AA and the 1 seed will be a good thing this year as the semi-finals won't be near as difficult as it will for the 2 vs 3. Whoever does get the 1 should be penciled in for the section final. Elk River and Grand Rapids certainly are playing for the early lead in the race for 1 and 2 on Saturday.

I would agree the scoring depth and defense are much improved. Goaltending - will reserve judgment for a few more games. Your elite tender has only played one game - beyond proving that he can play varsity level behind Aamodt and Perunovich (Team North), nothing more has been proven, although certainly he's the preordained super star for years to come (don't get me wrong - he will likely prove his worth down the road). 3 goalie rotations never work

Actually the rotation has worked so far as all 3 goalies have played very well. I'm sure Klatt will settle on one as the starter around mid-season. Rapids has not lost one game or even come close to losing a game due to goaltending. Furthest thing from why they lost in OT to LVN or BSM.

I know there are tons of games left to play, but if we were to seed Section 7 now would the top 5 be:
1. Grand Rapids
2. Elk River
3. Cloquet
4. Duluth Marshall
5. Duluth East

I totally agree this is where it stands today. A lot can change, but East certainly has dug themselves an early hole and they have basically no margin for error the rest of the way in 7AA games.

If the Elks can pull off the upset of the century tonight it will make for a fun year pounding the keyboard about section seeds, like we do every year.
