I'm confused as to why anyone would think that the rapids radio announcers would be anything but pro rapids. If it were a Duluth station i would have expected it to be all east

Well yeah, and that's part of the fun, listening to the subdued announcers after their team loses.

Not everybody can be as objective as Fleisch and Hack used to be. Well, maybe Ciskie.

Is it like a personal thing on the boards why nobody can say why Parker is out? Also , when will east actually have a full healthy lineup?
Yes, I suppose you could say it's a "personal thing." He's out for two weeks.

Repensky should be back next Saturday vs. Minnetonka. Not sure on Olson; I've heard a couple of weeks.
Hopefully two weeks on Olson. I can't get confirmation on this, so it may be more serious than what's being said.

I was at the game, very impressed with Rapids play compared to the Hermantown game. Mostly competitive but there were times when East dominated puck control. Made it exciting when GR scored with 1:30 left and of course a little extra curricular activity after the horn :)

Got a lot of respect for Hermantown - but you look at their schedule and East's - not even close in terms of number of high end teams they play - and I'll grant maybe some teams may not want to risk playing H'town. I have no horse in the race here, but to me East always seems to play a top notch schedule...

Go talk all you want about Hermantown on a Hermantown forum. They are a great single A team.

Great hockey game tonight with East - Rapids

Fun game, now I get to have some fun with my friends from Rapids ;) East-GR games are historically good ones though so no surprises tonight.

FYI on Trevor, right now it's three weeks, that's the closest anyone can say at the moment.

I just wish both Hermantown and Marshall would move up to AA and we can do two things:
1 - put this old argument to rest
2 - actually have another Northern Section in Minnesota.

How fun would Sectionals be with Rapids, East, Hermantown, Cloquet and Marshall.

Nice win by the Hounds. I think I like it being close, keeps a little more focus.

I agree and great post. The economics of our region need to change drastically in order for our communities to remain vibrant and continue to feed the youth programs as hockey cost are driving many out of the game. I doubt we will see any change real soon with what represents us in Washington (both parties) and locally.

Note to Karl and Lee I just did not figure that game to be as close as it was. Quickly becoming quite a rivalry which is great for the region, wish we had one more down at Heritage. These two teams deserve that home and home series.

If a few teams moved up to AA in the region we'd have Quarterfinal Saturday at Amsoil Arena with a state tourney type schedule of Noon and 2:30 and 6:00 and 8:30. That would be insanely fun!!! Semi-Final Saturday should be awesome this year though. I see the early game being Duluth East vs. the winner of Andover/Cloquet, then Elk River vs. Grand Rapids the later game. Look up Semi-Final Saturday at Amsoil Aren on Facebook. Fans should just go to Duluth Friday night and spend the night, take in the UMD vs. Colorado College game. The semi-finals are confirmed to start at 10:00 A.M. this year. Look at decc.org calendar if you don't believe me. Their event coordinator also confirmed this in an email. Holiday Inn and Radisson downtown you can take the skyway directly to the arena, which is particularly great when it's sub-zero outside.

No offense East fans, but I love it when fans make excuses. Especially after a win. Repensky doesnt count, cause I dont remember seeing people complain after the win against MG and others that he hasnt played against. As for the goalie, it was his 7th game of the season. And he plays for Duluth East, which means he is probably better than a lot of teams back up goalie. He got wins against St. Thomas and Centennial, plus others. Larson, I also see he has only played 6 games. So, someone else just needs to step up that probably isnt even from Duluth :)

Everyone has kids injured/sick this time of season. Dont make excuses in a close win that it could have been worse if healthy. You are undefeated!

Another interesting game at the IRA.

Rapids forecheck was non existant however it didn't stop them from scoring. Number 8 for the Indians is starting to stand out just seems to be finding the open ice near the slot. With 22 at forward there is some playmaking ability when the Indians actuAlly get the puck deep. However I noticed the GR d men struggle with the puck when 22 isn't back there. The GR goalie they played looked more confident than the one that played against h town.

East obviously has a good team but man was thAt goalie shaky all night. Their D moved the puck well at the blue line and overal did a great job in their own end.

As the season goes on this match up will look even better as GR will get better and e ast will get healthy.

Apparently every effort to explain why an East game might have been closer than expected is now "making excuses." Is it wrong of us to have high expectations for this team, and to try to figure out what happened when they don't quite meet those expectations?

Some credit should go to Rapids, of course--it's a rivalry game, and they came out skating hard defending their home ice, playing physical and trying something creative by putting Bischoff at forward. But it's a bit silly to pretend that key missing players "don't count" (and perhaps a bit insulting to those players). East is deep; they can survive most injuries. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't be better if they had the players who are out, especially when those players are D1 recruits.

During the second and third periods Rapids looked like the same team that totally went on the defensive in the third period and overtime of last seasons section championship game. I can't believe they're so willing to let East enter the offensive zone unchallenged. How about stepping up at the blue line and forcing the player with the puck to do something, rather than letting them gain the zone, just packing everyone down low and watching their D handle the puck uncontested. I don't understand that mindset. Obviously East dictates some of that, but you'd swear Rapids was on the kill the whole time.

I only had radio, but this sounds accurate based on what I heard--it seemed like constant "Moore to Beaulieu, Beaulieu to Moore" passing. Perhaps Rapids packed everyone low to try to limit the cycling by the East forwards--understandable, since they set up so many of their goals that way--but without watching in person, it's hard to say if the trade-off was worth it.

Exactly what I seen in Person. Basically let East move the puck around the top of the perimeter and let the goalie handle low percentage shots while the GR d men clear out the slot and in front of the net. It worked but only to a point I guess. When East got the puck deep the over powered the rapids D and the centers were not much help.

Trevors doctor told him he is able to skate as of now, but should rest for 2 weeks as a precaution, just so it doesnt get injured worse, and this way he will be healthy for a state title (knock on wood). Repensky still has swelling and his wrist is a little sore, but should be ready to go fairly soon. As of Dylan parker, hopefully he learned his lesson, and is ready after the suspension.

Yea I wouldn't mind if he healed all the way until Hastings and Tartan and then played those two just to get back into things before sections. I think we'll need him to play a very big big role for us. And getting Repensky back will be nice as it'll give the second blueliners a nice boost - having Beaulieu, Moore, and Nate all healthy spreads the quarterbacks through two lines better. Parker will be the most interesting case I think, if he didn't learn it, I could see Randolph sitting him. Which could possibly throw a major wrench in state title hopes...

Pretty sure Parker would not have trouble finding somewhere to play next year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he went the distance with advanced 16s and has proven himself to be the real deal. Everyone makes mistakes. He will be fine.
