I'm hoping that this game stays close.

Everybody knows that East has a very solid defensive corps, this is the time to prove it. If they can get some scoring from their top line, maybe Tardy will net 1, or 2 and it will be enough to carry them into the semis.

Cretin has a strong defensive player in Gopher recruit Mark Alt, but past that I'm not sure if it's enough to stop the Greyhounds from moving on.

Cretin is a solid team, but East has defense and can score. Don't get into a skating game with this team. I think East dominates here.

I have always been a historic fan of teams from "up North" and public school underdogs playing against the private school. I grew up among the "rumors and facts" that private schools recruited players and as such had a decided advantage. While how true that may be, there is little question that there have been some fantastic coaching and hockey traditions at a lot of the private schools.

Today, things are about the same in some public schools. Duluth East is no stranger to the concept of recruiting. I talked to a guy in Duluth this past fall and he said that East has a kid from Superior whos parents bought a house in Duluth so he can play there, they have a family that moved to Duluth from up the shore to do so and that one of the parents drives back up the shore to work now and that they have a player from the Lakes area living with a family on the Hillside so he can play as well. How true this is can be debated. Is it true..or sour grapes? Anybody out there from Duluth who can validate such??

Regardless...it does not seem right. This should be above all that. This should be about going to state with the kids you played pond hockey with growing up...the end of your nose numb and running. Coaches should not feel the need to put pressure on kids to play anywhere with promises of "visability" and hopes for the future. This is Minnesota..not Iowa. IF you are a hockey stud, they will find you!!!

So..I say..Let em play...and I will enjoy the game without choosing a team to cheer for....something quite new to me as I had my teams picked yesterday to root for. ( I was really hoping for a Warroad-Virginia game.)

Anyway..I know this will draw some fire...but then again...what will come through the smoke? This is the best time of year to be a Minnesotan. I just wish channel 45 had a signal that was worth something!

without reading all 6 pages again, who has the offensive advantage in this one... ??? I know east gets a ton of shots on net but not a ton of goals ... So how is CDH?

The also have a senior forward that transferred from Brainerd. Only he and his father moved there while his mother and sister stayed in Brainerd. In order to be eligible to play his parents had to be divorced. The did just that prior to the season starting. They are still very much together. What some people won't do!

Is it really the recruiting or the parents/kids wanting to win. Come on now... we ALL know how crazy minnesotans are about their hockey. Its shouldn't be an issue right now. I didn't remember East and Cretin playing in the past, but they've played four times, all in the early 90's. East won all four.
