Excellent game! These two know how to put on a show.
Tonka came out flying tonight, unlike the 1st game. They popped in two pretty qucikly and narrowly missed going up 3-0.
In fact they had 3 great chances in the 2nd, and more in the 3rd. Ednia held the edge in shots, but I'd say quality scoring chances were about even.
Edina had the edge in the second half of the 3rd. Their goal was a shot from the point that (unforunately for Tonka) went off a tonka player.
Krueger played solid. Tonka outworked Edina in the offensive zone much of the night, and Jake Gardiner had a great game. He was the man out there today.
Budish is a stud, can't wait to see him in Maroon & Gold. Edina just seemd a bit off balance today, Tonka pressured them the whole game and did not give them much room out there.
Word for those who face Ednia in the playoofs...don't give them too much room, and look for the 5-hole on Cashetta.

"What a great season the Skippers are having...and hopefully this win will quiet the "rube" Edina supporters on this board for maybe a day or two ..athough IMO...the "rube" posters supporting Roseau are almost as bad".
Could BIAFP be any more predictable?

And what the heck does that moniker mean?

Another exciting game bwtn the Skippers and their arch rival Hornets.
Hornets outshoot Tonka, but Tonka had the better opportunities.
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
Tonka - Eric Hanson beats the Edina defender wide and cuts in on Caschetta and scores through the 5-hole.
Tonka - Jake "the real deal, Future 1st round pick" Gardiner goes end to end and beats Caschetta through the 5-hole on a wide angle shot.
Edina - Budish picks off a clearing pass in the slot and fires a wrist shot over the glove of Krueger.
Second Period - no scoring
2 great chances for Tonka were stopped by Caschetta. Goebel on a breakaway and Coatta on the doorstep.
Budish had 1 laser from the slot, but Krueger saw it all the way.
3rd Period
Jake Gardiner fires a low shot to the stick side of Caschetta from the blue line on a power play. It catches the inside post and goes in.
Brendan Baker? fires a hard wrist shot from the point.
It takes a wicked pin ball deflection left, catching Krueger moving to his right and into the net with 5:35 to play.
Edina turns up the heat for the rest of the period and had Everson on the doorstep but he missed wide.
Final Score:
Tonka - 3
Edina - 2
Edina wins CLC with a 7-1 record.
Tonka finishes at 6-2 with losses to Edina and Hopkins.
Hopkins finishes at 4-3-1 with losses to Edina (2x), Tonka, and a tie with Wayzata.

Congrats to Minnetonka on the win. They outworked and outplayed Edina tonight. My Hornets will need to pick it up if they want to go deep into playoffs.

-Both teams seemed lethargic for stretches and looked downright bored at times, which contributed to less than stellar play
-Minnetonka carried much of the first and the 1st goal (Hansen?) was a think of beauty. He skated down the right, held the defenseman off then skated left and slid the puck in as he went past Caschetta. The 2nd goal was very soft. Caschetta possibly took his eye off the puck and expected something to the corner? Edina capitalized (Budish?) on a loose puck out front to make it 2-1.
-2nd period was carried more by Edina imho and this is the period where more of their skills showed up. I have to wonder if their inability to tie the game was a downer for them heading into the 3rd because MHS carried most of the early part of the 3rd (although I missed the 3rd goal). From about the midway point to the end the teams were pretty up and down although Edina was really buzzing for the tying goal late.
-Edina's 2nd goal was somewhat weak but it was hard to tell from my angle if Buonomo was screened and/or it went in off a deflection
-I was surprised Giles didn't pull Caschetta earlier (about 1:29 left?) with a faceoff in the MHS end following an icing call
-If Tonka had any PP at all the game may have been buried early
-Matt Leer likes to yap
-Marshall Everson is a stud and may be my favorite player on Edina, which is a testament to him given the talent that he plays with
-Edina's top line might be as good as any I've seen in a long time
-Edina does not let their opponent hold the zone for long and breaks out extremely well
-Tonka forced Edina to the boards and made them play a lot from the outside which imho limited their scoring chances
-Tonka may have a bit more depth and a bit better goaltending, but the state tournament seems to bring out the best in high end talent and with that first line Edina will be tough to beat
-There was one huge penalty right in front of the Edina goalie which didn't get called and occurred I bet less than 1 min before Edina's 3rd goal
-Buonomo played well but has to tighten up on the loose rebounds
--Now for sections which won't be easy for Minnetonka (EP, BSM and Hopkins await) while Edina may not have to face a team that's as good as any of those three
[edit] I see Kruger mentioned twice above but the guy in net was wearing #1 and not #35.

It was Krueger in net tonight not sure which number is supposed to be which.
There are some pretty good evaluations there about the game from what I saw.
Gardiners 1st goal was weak to say the least, Caschetta must've just thought he wasn't going to shoot because if he had his eye on it no way it would have been a goal.
Both teams had their moments tonight scoring chances go to Edina, Casey Gaarder had a few Everson had some good ones but no one could seem to bury it on their side while Tonka on the other hand missed a couple breakaways (4 I think they had), and also their PP was not impressive as Edina shut it down besides for one goal that was a lighter snap shot from the point that may have been tipped even.

It's possible the program guide had it wrong because I could swear the goalie wore 1.

Kruger was in net, i thought he played well would not be supprised if they went with him more the rest of the way.

#35 was in the net and that is Krueger.
Coach Urich has a tough decision on his hands going into the playoffs.
Does he play his senior goalie, Buonomo, or does he go with the top Sophomore goalie in the state who has not lost all year long?
My guess. He'll go with Buonomo and not give him much rope for the region semifinals and potential finals

What about his former Teammate, Alex Fons.
Does experience beat out the "hotter" goalie as of now?

I thought the game was a big disappointment, and obviously meant nothing to Edina. All 3 Tonkas goals were bad, and any good peewee goalie would have saved them. The first round was a great game.

On the first goal Gardiner started from behind his net and went straight down and scored. I agree that was a bad goal if you had 2 monkeys as parents.
Anyway, I think the shots were close to 36-24 so that would mean that MTKA's sophomore goalie did fairly well, giving up only one goal for every 12 shots.
Wes said it will be Minnetonka and Centennial in the state finals. You can argue with him if you want.
Fons of Hopkins

Why I like Krueger over Fons. Fons is a good goalie, but he hasn't seen the competion like Krueger has ALL YEAR LONG.
Krueger Stats:
Overall Record: 12-0
Record vs. Top 20 (A and AA): 8-0
Krueger GAA against top 20: 1.75
Wins over: Duluth Marshall #1A, Rosemount #6AA, Roseville #20AA, EP #16AA, BSM #5AA, AHA #12AA, Hopkins #8AA, and Edina #2AA
Fons Stats:
Fons vs Top 20 is 4-3
Fons GAA vs. Top 20 is 3.00
Wins over Hermantown #10A, Anoka #9AA, Woodbury #18AA and Tonka #3AA.
Losses to Edina #2AA (2x), Tonka #3AA
Of Fons quality wins, Hermantown was early in the season, Anoka and Woodbury were in the SSP Tourney in December and Tonka was early in January. He was unable to post a big win down the stretch.
Does he stop a lot of pucks? The answer is yes, but I don't think Hopkins can take the next step without givng up 2 goals or less in the 6AA playoffs.
My predictions for top 4 seedings in 6AA are:
1 - Tonka
2 - BSM. They need to move out of NSC and play a tougher schedule.
3 - EP. Strength of schedule by playing in Lake Conference gives them #3
4 - Hopkins. Nice season. Big rematch on the horizon with Tonka in semi's.

Wingmaster---You mean to say if he was playing a bunch of monkeys and a monkey was in goal. Don't get defensive, I am just keeping it real. Now on the other hand Zach Budish's goal was great.

It was Regan who shot the pinball goal from the point. Also, I'm pretty sure it was Casey Gaarder who shot wide from the doorstep in the final minutes of play.
