Character of a person, how they handle themselves on and off the ice will determine this award. Unless we all know the type of character these girls have i feel that at this point ON-ICE production is out the window.

I have a feeling that to determine the final five it will be off ice activities and what have these players given back to the community. This is what the award is about, on-ice success got them this far, off-ice success will get them further. These are people, Ms. and Mr. Hockey isnt always about the "most talented or best hockey player" those are judgments and depending on who you see and what night you see them anyone of these girls could be the best in the state.

I dont personally know these girls, and i am sure none of us know all 10 personally. There are a lot of things that go into the selection process, like Ms America   the bikini contest is only a part of it

Not really. OK maybe a little. But seriously, this isn't the right thread, but with all the talent on Alex's team. D1 players, Phase 3 players, Ms hockey candidate, proabably ms goalie candidate, All state players, etc., anything less than a top 3 finish at state for Alex, would be a let down. Or else there are major errors in our systems in evaluating talent.

What credentials? If she belongs there I think asking why is OK, this is a discussion thread. The only thing this proves is that you cannot take this with out bias. Moving on then.

In addition to on-ice talent, criteria for the Ms. Hockey Award includes academics, community/extracurricular activities, citizenship and coachability

You coachable city slicking girls from the south can go fetch your assistant coach another extra frappe latte all you want, but when it comes to citizenship Northern girls have got you beat flat out.

Are you keeping a watchful eye for a possible invasion from Canada? No, I didn't think so.

Is there a list of any type out there that shows all the Ms. Hockey nominees, not just the top 10 selected?

Best of luck to all the nominees, extremely difficult to narrow the list to five in my view...glad I don't have to vote. You really can't go wrong with any of the 10 outstanding candidates.

Danielle Welch...total package, and the MVP of her team, and conference. Hopefully she can take her team to state with a win on Wednesday.

Not to my knowledge, LPH previews a candidate each week but outside the top 10 that is the only insight we get. I think the only people who know all the nominees would be the people (college coaches, I'm told) who got the ballot to vote for the top 10.

Heard a wicked RUMOR there were a couple high level skaters who got nominated late.......not sure if they ended up on the ballot or not.

Do the voters have like a resume or application of the girls??

Since she has been allowed to rush the puck and actually join in the offense at CDH, Kelly Wild has six goals and four assists in last four games. Numbers could have been more impressive for her and Brittany Carlson had they been allowed a littlle more offensive freedom.

what is the criteria again?

1. leading penalty minutes?
2. yelling at the ref?
3. getting kicked out of a game because of fighting (temper?)
4. your coach sending you to the locker room early in a game cuz of your temper?
5. physically fighting with your own teammate-who tries to stop you from fighting another teams player?
6. taking 4 penalties in one game, your coach sitting you the rest of the game, your team loosing and then...crying out in the lobby?
7. asking another teams defender "how does MY sh**t taste"?
AND FINALLY...
8. taking a #2 in a bucket and putting it another players bed at camp!

I have heard of just the perfect candidate!!

If all of the above is true, then the nominating committee has done a very poor job of identifying Ms. Hockey candidates and should go back and examine their nominating process and criteria. Also, if all of the above is true this girl needs help and not the accolades associated with a Ms Hockey nomination.

OK, I'm not voting for her; also, I thought each candidate had to be nominated by her coach. Sounds like her coach would tend not to nominate a player who alledgedly did some of the things listed by Snake.

is this conversation regarding the elk river candidate?

My opinion, FWIW, is that they're all probably deserving candidates, unless there is someone who has exhibited bad behavior. I also would be careful about statistics--some players rack up huge numbers against weak teams (no offense). Not that there's anything wrong with that, just that you have to look carefully at numbers.
