I wouldn't say that Tonka choked in 2010 when they handled EP in the final. However, I was just taking a little, jokingly jab at EP. They can be a very good team and I think they have a shot of making it to the tourney again.

For the record, not ALL Eagan fans are upset about the rankings. I, for one, like reading Karl's rankings and insight but realize the rankings are just for fun and to bring about discussion, and the only thing that matters is what happens on the ice. BOTH Edina and Eagan are very good hockey teams and they deserve to be ranked in the top 5. Let's hope they both make it to State and the "random" seeding process has them face off in the quarterfinals.
You mean we're supposed to express our opinions to bring up points for discussion? Interesting idea

But you would have to say, 2 years ago they had the best HS hockey team only to lose to the green team that only a green team can love. Before that, they were the number one team in the section and let Benilde get to the state tournament.....Tonka needs go get it done...no more excuses.

Eagan please stop worrying about your seed and get it done when it counts.

Now that Eagan has lost 3-2 to Burnsville, what does everyone have to say now?

Eagan lost. Edina lost. The song remains the same. Darn it.

Burnsville 3
Eagan 2
Eagan must have been too busy reading their press clippings.
Lucky for them their section is a "cake walk" this season.
Tonka 6
EP 0
What?
Wayzata 3
Edina 2
Guess that is why they play the game. Playoffs will have more surprises in store no question.

Oldtimer is throwing candy out to the 5 year-olds to try to get them (er, us) to fight!
You'll get no argument from me regarding Eagan's game -- they blew a golden opportunity to solidify their position (at least in my mind). And, as I'm sure you know, their section will not be a cakewalk -- we've seen Apple Valley give plenty of good teams a scare this year (tie and OT loss to Burnsville, 1 goal losses to Edina, Eden Prairie, 2 goal losses to Duluth East and Wayzata), and Woodbury had Eagan figured out in the SSP tournament. And anything can happen with Cretin (1 goal loss to Edina) and Eastview.
Good luck to all. I'm looking forward to some exciting playoff hockey!

I've got a feeling 1 or 2 of these top 5 won't be at the Xcel:
East
Tonka
Eagan
MG
Edina
It happens every year. Trying to figure our which one(s) is the fun part.

I agree, the funny thing is that the 1&2 (east and Tonka) have the hardest road to state.

That's what makes MN High School Hockey so great. It's not just the State Tourney that's thrilling, usually starting in the semi's the Section Tournaments are awesome! You've usually got conference rivalries and teams that have played each other 1, 2, or 3 times vying for a trip to St Paul, playing a one-game playoff in some of the best arenas in the state with probably the best hockey atmospheres in the country. Gotta love it!

I agree wished it lasted longer so a guy could get out to enjoy these great games.

Not only are you right, but there’s probably a higher chance that 1 of them them misses out than all of them make it if you simply use simple crude math.
% chance each team makes it to state (my percentages, so you can debate what it’s worth)
Duluth East: 90
Minnetonka: 60
Maple Grove: 85
Eagan: 95
Edina: 80
approx: 35% all 5 make it. Adjust each teams section chances to get a different # from what I get, but there always someone that's expected to be there that isn't.
Open to debate...
Eagan SOS

When comparing Eagan SOS to all the other teams top ten teams, there is no comparsion. They dont not even come close to Wayzata, Tonka, Duluth East.
In addition you then compare BSM cupcake schedule to Eagan. Yah they do play teams like cooper and chicago lakes or whoever their called, but they also have played wayzata, tonka, Maple grove-twice, Morehead-twice, Hill, totino-twice.

I am wondering why the Edina/EP game is not a Hockey Hub Spotlight Game today. Any place to hear/watch the game live online?

In your opinion, how does this game affect the final rankings?

Not a whole lot, especially if all of the EP first line is still out. A loss might drop Edina behind Eagan, and perhaps Eden Prairie too--it'll depend on how the game goes. If Edina wins, both teams probably stay in the same place.

EP is without 5 of their regular forwards and their top 4 scorers

So if they beat Edina, that would sure be a big statement.
1-1 after the First.
