Must be a written rule you cannot allow 3 players from the same team to be nominated for Mr. Hockey (TJ Moore) or if, your last name is Moore (Meirs and TJ). Glance at there regular season schedule vs. some of these other nominee's and they definitely deserve to be recognized

TJ Moore was an obvious snub...if anyone has watched him in the Elites for the past two years like I have...and you compare him to several of the other candidates, then you instantly recognize and it's obvious your only allowed 2 from 1 school...don't worry TJ, the ones that count, they know!!!!

I'm surprised not one kid from Duluth East, they might be the best team in the state when this thing is over and they don't have any Seniors worthy of nomination?

I think Jake Guentzel would have given Besse the biggest run for his $ if he stuck around. (I would almost guarantee Besse wins it-especially after his tourney performance last year), although I think Vanelli is the BEST HS player in MN this year and of all the seniors I think he will have the most post HS success.

While this East team does not have as much front-end talent as the past few, I was disappointed that Meirs Moore did not make the list. He's having a huge season for the Hounds, and has really improved the defensive side of his game. (His puck-moving skills were never in question.)

However, NHL scouts do play an important role in the voting for this award, and 5'9" defensemen will, unfortunately, struggle to garner much attention, no matter how well they run a team's power play. It is what it is.

I would agree with all of this. Often Mr. Hockey goes to the player who is the best pro prospect, but Besse's HS achievements have been so overwhelming that he's hard to pass up. And I think that is the right call, as the award should be based primarily on what players have done, and not what they might do in the future.

I think Lettieri would have had a great year, especially if paired with Coatta. Might have made their offense good enough to overcome the goaltending.

So if its based on what they have done, how is bischoff on there with only 6 goals thus far, and moore, who is the leader on a top team in the state and is having a great season? its the best high school player in the state, not the kid with the most potential. not that it matters because besse is going to win

If you ask the NHL scouts and D1 coaches that made the list maybe they can tell you. They must have seen something about his play they liked. I agree that Moore was a big snub though, great player.

That's the thing...it isn't really based on what they've done, unless what they've done is so overwhelmingly impressive that it cant be ignored (ie. Besse). Potential does matter for the award. Personally, I don't like this, as it leads to nominations for players like Bischoff or Mark Alt a few years back, who both missed half the season with an injury. I don't want to take anything away from those players, as they are both very talented and had/have very bright futures, but when players like that get nominated, what are we really rewarding?

Besse was added to the USHL Omaha Lancers post HS season protected list yesterday.

Thought I'd refresh this, while it will surprise no one, Grant Besse is your 2013 Mr. Hockey. Congrats to one of the most dominant players in HS history, very much deserved.

I'm very curious how he'll fit in with the Badgers' "rope-a-dope" defensive-oriented system. With a minimum of four games per year vs. the Gophers we'll get ample opportunity to see how he progresses.
