Burnsville 6
Eagan 3
Burnsville jumps out to an early 4-0 lead. Eagan scored 3 goals in about 3 minutes in the 2nd period. Burnsville regains momentum and wins. Very impressed with Eagan's disipline and Bvilles ability to bounce back after an ugly 2nd period.

It should also be noted that out of the 10 players and goalie for Duluth.....4 were sophomores. Gutsy performance this weekend --- against bigger (in numbers and size) and more experienced teams. BRAVO!

Minnetonka (5-1) at Undefeated Wayzata looks like the big match up. After a poor showing in the MTKA Tourney, Tonka looks like they firing on all cylinders…winning 4 of their last 5 games. Their one lost came from Champlin Park, a team that can beat anyone in the league on any given night. Wayzata’s defense and goal tending have been stellar. There will be no love lost out on the ice tonight. I expect a hard hitting game matching Wayzata’s defensive core (given up only 5 goals in the last 6 games) against Tonka’s firepower. Wayzata by 1.

2 goals may win this game. Last year the results were:
2-1 tonka @ wayzata
2-2 tie @ tonka
4-0 wayzata @ state semi's (1-0 going into third with en goal)
tonka is also playing good def with only 5 goals given up in league play in their 6 games (1, 0, 0, 3, 0, 1)

This should be Wayzata's first real challenge of the year. If tonka lives up to all the hype, this will be a really good game.

Its a matter of perspective I guess...If you consider Edina, Souix Lookout and Burnsville not too challenging, this would be their first test.
Just busting on you Reg.
The Wayzata kids are really fired up for tonights game. There is just bad blood between these two. The last time I saw Tonka was in their tournament a few weeks back. They looked pretty bad at that time. What is the hype of Tonka? I know that they are generally one of best teams in the league every year. What's special about them this year?
Blueblood, thanks for the info on Tonka's defense. Obviously, only giving up 5 goals in 6 games is outstanding.
Looks like it will come down to goal tending...situation normal!
Good luck tonight everyone.

first period was 0-0. Tonka had several chances but couldn't capitalize outshooting wayzata around 8-3.
second period begins with a tonka breakaway off the post. an indicator of the night ahead.
wayzata rolled from there winning 6-0.
for other teams playing wayzata, you better clear the man, then the puck when they're in front or it's gonna end up in your net.

Dude - any game that ends with running time is a blow out. I couldn't believe all of the whinning of the Tonka players...slamming sticks against the boards, swearing and trash talking. If you take that energy and put it into your back check you would be a lot better off.
Great game by goalie Jake Terfehr and solid play by the d. Wicked fore check totally fustrated Tonka.

Hips,
I don't think it was the wicked forechek(sp) that caused problems for Tonka, as it was the play in their offensive end. D cannot keep pinching if there is not a forward back to help in case of oddman rush. Pinching D must take the puckcarrier and not allow both the puckcarrier and the puck to get by. Hockey 101. You guys deserved the win as Tonka was outplayed and outcoached.

Thanks Pipes,
Good win for Wayzata and a tough loss for Tonka. Some nights the puck just finds its way into the net, others...you can't buy a goal.
Wayzata and Tonka both have tough games ahead this week against undefeated teams: Tonka vs. Edina (5-0) and Wayzata vs. Centennial (5-0-2).
Has anyone caught the scores of the SLP vs. Stillwater and Elk River vs. Champlin Park?

Well the Wayzata/Minnetonka game wasn't as much of a test as I thought it would be. Minnetonka out played Wayzata in the first period, but failed to capitalize on any scoring chances. Wayzata then dominated the rest of the game. A visible difference in Minnetonka's play occurred after wayzata scored it's first goal. That doesn't bode well for Minnetonka's ability to handle even the slightest adversity. While I think Minnetonka is a very talented team, I was disappointed to see them let this one slip out of control and ultimately get embarrassed in a game they could of and should have been much more competitive.

Last year top 15 from league advanced to regional. #10 thru #15 played a single elimination game and winners advanced to 3 pools of 4 teams:
Pool 1 - seeds 1, 6, 7 and winner of 12v13
Pool 2 - seeds 2, 5, 8 and winner of 11v14
Pool 3 - seeds 3, 4, 9 and winner of 10v15
From there, it was double elimination with 6 metro league teams advancing to state.
2 of the 3 outstate teams will also advance (Duluth, Moorhead and Grand Rapids) to make the 8 teams for state.
Regional is at Highland Park Arena (Charles Schultz)
I would suspect somthing similar this year.....
State is at Edina (Braemar)

Burnsville 5
Stillwater 2
Bville outshot Stillwater 32-17
Good fast paced game. 4 total PP goals. Stillwater seemed a little undiciplined and took some bad penalties. Bville capitalized with 3 PP goals. Excited to see Champlin tomorrow.
