Teak, how about a section for Forwards and Defensemen?

Max Coatta from Minnetonka is playing better than any freshman in the state right now! 9 points in the last 3 games and back to back games with a hat trick! on pace for 40+ points this year, what more can you say, the kid is a stud, and he is only going to get better!

Was Max Bantam eligible this year?

He has a great knack for knowing where to be at the right time, and he obviously knows what to do with it when he gets it. He's quick and very dangerous around the net. A great formula for racking up lots of points during his high school career.

Hopefully as 9th grader he's still growing. He'll need more strength to fend off the hits and interference-type stuff as teams start to pay more attention to where he's at, especially after the current crop of seniors graduate and he becomes more of the focus. Not that the coaches of Minnetonka's future opponents haven't already noticed....he is already making Minnetonka that much more difficult to defend against.

No arguments - Max Coatta is an excellent player and is a real asset to Mtka. As a freshman, he has many exciting years ahead.

Let's not forget or discount the fact that he's on an excellent line with line mates that are willing to move the puck and feed it right to his stick in the slot. He does an excellent job of being in the right place - but he's playing with outstanding players that should get equal credit for his success and Mtka's!

It's fun to watch players who understand the importance of moving the puck and getting it to the player in the right place. I've seen too much selfish play over the years by seniors looking to make a name for themselves or get recruited, drafted, or be crowned Mr. Hockey. The better players understand the team game and how it makes them all better, and ultimately may win Mtka a State Tournament Championship.

Could. I've lumped everyone together for laziness only. Take a look at my long list (points down through 5) and tell me who is a defenseman.

Yeah, he probably should have SHOT the puck on that assist, rather than passing it. If he would just listen to us old farts, I'm sure he'd be a better player. hehehe.....

Hey, let's give Teak some help here. I would like to see some comments based on games watched. Many frosh are making contributions that are not on the scoreboard.

I will start:
I saw Reno from Edina earlier in the year and he looked good. I heard he has played very well in the Schwan's cup.

let's see what happens now that gardiner's out for awhile.

don't think he will be able to keep up the early season pace that he has set. he probably will end up around 30+pts....

19 year old

One of these kids on this list will be 19 plus yrs old when he graduates. Got to love kids that are held back or started a year late for sports.

and one of the top scorers so far could be a 1st year bantam, so i guess it all equals out, hey.

Most of the goals he scored against us (STA) were set up by Frawley (#17) according to the stats on MNHub. Loss of Gardiner may hurt but the kid has a decent nose around the net for sure. I am sure they will put someone of high talent level between Frawley and Coatta. Tonka is deep up front as well as the blue line...

As if it matters. What is it? You decide:

1) Coatta gets a new linemate.
2) Somebody graduates at 19.
3) The sun comes up over Roseau.
4) Spring Lake Park is undefeated.

As to graduating late, my brother always likes to say: "Third grade was the best three years of my life." It's a joke, of course. Not third grade, but being there for three years. :P

I see where Kyle Osterberg picked up 1g and 1a in Lakeville South's 3-2 win over Blake. Cool. Keep it cool, Kyle.

The last time that I was in Minnesota was June 2008. We ate with some friends at a restaurant in Lakeville that had both sets of high school ice hockey jerseys hanging in a display case (L. North, L. South). The waiter was a high school student himself and we had an interesting chat about his school, and where I live (Malaysia). Cool.

With ~160 high schools playing ice hockey, Minnesota hockey rocks. That is what matters.
