Thanks.

Saturday had some great performances from:

Brandon Parker, Faribault : 3 assists in 4-4 draw
Zac McCarver, No. St. Paul : 3 assists in 6-5 loss
Matt Pohlkamp, Brainerd : 9th goal of season in 12-3 rout of River Lakes

AND

Travis Boyd, Hopkins : 1 goal, 1 assist in 2-1 upset over Minnetonka in OT. That means that Boyd factored into both goals.

Travis Boyd is probably the best freshman in the state. Not far behind and important assets to their teams are Michaelson and Horn. All three are important to their teams. I might also add Reilly from AHA, he makes up for his size because he is smart and skilled.

I would expect Michaelson to miss some games here as he left the Duluth East game with a concussion.

Yes, they are very young. The top line has a good mix of JR and SR but after that there is not that many upperclassmen. It shows in the inconsistant play so far this year.

I think Jay will be one to watch in the future with his size and skills. As a freshman he is making an impact in every game. He is the 2nd line center and as he grows into his body, could have the ability to take over a game.

It has been suggested that I use the stats from www.minnesotasportsonline.com (website A) to compile the frosh list rather than mnhockyhub.com (website B). I chose several players and compared the stats from the two sites side-by-side.

[Player] [GP-G-A Website A] [GP-G-A Website B]
Eric Carlson 1-0-1 23-9-6
Travis Boyd 20-23-22 22-22-24
Jay Dickman 10-6-6 17-5-3
Kyle Krueger 11-9-9 20-8-12
Christian Horn 18-20-13 23-19-15
Moose Lake no stats 11 games worth of stats
Garret Schmitz no stats 21-9-12
Nate Arentz 8-8-6 22-9-8

Clearly the second website, MnHockeyHub.com has more complete stats although they are probably missing some games here and there.

I watched Travis Boyd for the first time against Edina. I cant imagine many 9th graders competing against Edina's first line the way he did. Very good player. Very creative. His linemate Skalbeck is very good too.

Notable Friday/Saturday performances by freshmen for games that have been reported already.

Mick Dhein of Richfield picked up his 13th goal of the season in his team's 3-2 upset of Hill-Murray.

And finally, Red Lake Falls got all of their goals from freshmen in their 3-2 OT win over Wadena: Garret Schmitz (2g 1a) and Dylan Zutz (1g).

Thanks for pointing out this name. I had not seen the Monticello roster earlier in the season.

He has 12g 13a for 25 points in 24 games (#3 on team). Added to the list.
