MN goal record
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but I believe Jaxon Nelson broke the state goal scoring record for the regular season. Joey Benik broke Jared Festler's record in the 08-09 season with 63 goals in 25 games, Nelson sits at 64 in 23 games. One would have to think he plays his final two years of high school elsewhere with the points he's put up already in his career.

The Nelson kid only played in about half the Elite games? He is for real imo after watching him play against better competition there. I only watched him play in a regular game in state tournament and Hockey Day last year. Even if he isn't putting up points (which he always is), he is making the play to create a chance. He is clearly a wrecking ball in the 3A weak schedule the last couple years.

Someone trying to point out that a record may have been broke and everyone is quick to point out the schedule. Yes, everyone knows there is not stiff competition in 3A.nobody wrote:Points are valued by the strength of opponents.
It doesn't mean that he is the best player in the state because he has the most goals/points.
No, he may not be the best player in the state, but he is the highest-ranked player for his age group IN THE COUNTRY.InYourFace09 wrote:Someone trying to point out that a record may have been broke and everyone is quick to point out the schedule. Re: MN goal record
Does anyone know what the plan is for next year? It's a big decision for a young boy. He could likely break two more records if he doesn't go anywhere...MNpuckBlog wrote:Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but I believe Jaxon Nelson broke the state goal scoring record for the regular season. Correct, but everyone is quick to bash as his schedule may not be up to par with the rest.Teak wrote:No, he may not be the best player in the state, but he is the highest-ranked player for his age group IN THE COUNTRY.InYourFace09 wrote:Someone trying to point out that a record may have been broke and everyone is quick to point out the schedule. Congrats to Jaxson! Just out of curiosity, where would I find the current rankings for THE COUNTRY?Teak wrote:No, he may not be the best player in the state, but he is the highest-ranked player for his age group IN THE COUNTRY.InYourFace09 wrote:Someone trying to point out that a record may have been broke and everyone is quick to point out the schedule. I think "THE COUNTRY" means towns under 500 in population..Bluelightspecial-II wrote:Congrats to Jaxson! Is this the first season in MN where a high school team has had a weak schedule?
Has their never been a weak schedule for a high school team in history?
Unless your an idiot, the answer to both of those questions is no.
Every season atleast 20 schools play a schedule atleast as weak as luverne's or weaker. In ten years that adds up to 200 seasons.
Has Minnesota hockey been around longer than ten seasons?
Again, unless your an idiot you know the answer to that question is yes.
Every decade 200 seasons with an average of 15 skaters on each team is 3000 Athletes. Every decade there have been 3000 athletes with a crack at this record. None of them have done it.
Sit back and respect what Jaxon has done.
Don't be Idiots.

Gotta go with notTonight on this one. For anyone, anywhere, ever, to put their name on the top of that list, to do what has not been done, in MN, should be respected. To do it as a sophomore, commands respect, from anywhere, ever. Hockey is a great sport for its humility, you do not live up to that if all you can do is point out the shortcomings of everything around what he has done, and even if that is how you feel, do the hockey thing and quietly tip your hat.

Have to laugh when someone is calling you an idiot and can't spell the word "you're" correctly. Also, since when did "at least" become one word?notTONIGHT wrote:Is this the first season in MN where a high school team has had a weak schedule?

Back to the point though, it's an incredible feat for anyone, much more being that Nelson is a sophomore. I hope he stays around and smashes all the records.
East High Rah Rah Rah....
Ben Hanowski had 73 goals and 135 points total including playoffs in 08-09. I think those are both the modern record. The goals one is much more likely for Nelson this year.
Hanowski also holds the career record with 405 points in just four seasons. Even if Nelson came back for his fourth season (which would be his junior year), he wouldn't reach 405. He would maybe break Hanowski's career goal record of 196.

You see, I wasn't calling anyone an idiot.
I was merely advising against becoming one.
