Warroad vs Lake of the Isles

Please tell me it's the unreliable Hub at fault. That this game was not really 17-0.

Well at least they didn't go for two after either touchdown. [-X

I am not condoning the result of the game in questions, and I have commented on this subject before so my stance on this has already been noted. I do believe, however, that in sections the theories on this topic change slightly and other factors come into play.

With current rules set forth, all teams have earned the opportunity to compete in sections, but let’s face it, there will definitely be some major miss-matched games in the first round (similar to State) and the burden tends to fall on the higher seed. My opinion has always been that you can play games with class and dignity towards your opponent, however, the pressure is also on the coaches to keep their team at the high level required to continue to compete through sections, and prepare for their next game. In this case Warroad’s next game is against EGF on Monday, not an “easy” matchup by any means.

Anyone that has coached in these games knows that the players tend to play down to the level of their opponent and bad habits quickly creep in. Passes and plays that they normally wouldn’t attempt tend to grow over the course of the game, and depending on how fast you start to score, the quicker this process begins. They are still teenage girls, and for most of them, they do not even realize that they are not playing at the same smart / high level required to get on track for the bigger (and possible season ending) games ahead if their coach is not holding them to that high standard. Yes, rolling your 3rd & 4th line on a more consistent basis and running power play #2 over #1 is one of the easiest solutions and being that there is not any breakdown of the game noted on the site we don’t know where the goals came from and what periods. However, if your top players are not playing well, being lazy and not connecting on the systems put in place, then the coaches responsibility to his/her team is to make sure they get back on track and end the game playing their style of hockey at the crisp level required for their challenging game ahead. With only 3 games to get to State, each game becomes even more important and cannot afford to let even a small portion of period get you off track.

Long stretch passes, top goal scores getting shorthanded goals after a substantial lead and top line scoring goals late in the 3rd period are not needed to get on track, and without the score sheet shown on the site we don’t know if this was the case. As I stated above, I am not condoning Warroad in this case, just pointing out that there are additional factors that come into play during sections that we need to take into account as well.

All true, to a certain point. Up by 10 probably enough? If I were the coach I wouldn't post the stats either.

I've always thought that it is more embarrassing to play "keep away" from a team in a blowout rather than running up score. Let them play, especially in sections.

Agreed! Making a young girls skate around and chase the other team while they play keep away is more embarrassing. You are basically saying "you are so bad, we are not allowed to shoot". If you knew how bad LOW is you would think differently. I believe Warroad did let off and probably could have beat them 30-0.
