Just an FYI to Puck, Snowmass is a Wayzata guy not an Edina guy. You may want to retract your statement.ThePuckStopsHere wrote:Cocky Flippin Cake Eater, Maybe you shouldn't open your mouth until all your cake is gone.Snowmass wrote:Edina-3

Well people, Edina is truly #1. Wayzata is still short the 1 injured stud (back in next week or so), but Edina just outhustled/muscled/efforted Wayzata tonight. My guess is if they played 10X's, Edina wins 7/10. But... it's still only October.

Wow. ITK guy....classy reaction. Edina was awesome last year (I think they won state in 'A' and 'B-1' and it's impressive (not surprising) that they are awesome again. It's amazing how quick you slammed me because you thought I'm an Edina guy. I don't see too many Edina guys on here bragging or being 'cocky'. And they have every right to do so. Just take a peak at the state titles they won/win across all ages. The 'cockiness' is usually left to the people from programs that are not used to winning and when they do they are the ones who get a little 'cocky' etc.... So lets take a peak at the LPH final rankings from last year: Rosemount.....2 or 3 in the top 20. Edina....too many to count along with the 11 top 5's. So go ahead and be proud of Rosemounts little scrimmage win over Edina....celebrate and such. Out!InTheKnow wrote:Just an FYI to Puck, Snowmass is a Wayzata guy not an Edina guy. Then the Hornets got a lucky marginal tripping call (Irish player lifted a Hornet’s stick of the ice to gain control of the puck and the Hornet fell) and a strange play where a penalty was called when an Irish forward handed the goalie his stick after he had lost it. quote]
The rule book states that a player can not handle 2 sticks at one time. The appropriate way to do it would have been to drop the players stick then get the goalie's stick and give it to him. Or the player could have given his stick to the goalie, then fetched the goalies stick. It is a pretty obscure rule but one that has been in place for a LONG time.

Puck Stops:
Memories are short. This time last year the sky was falling when Edina's Pee Wees, who were the "Super Squirts" two years prior, lost three and tied one of their first few games.
I'm sure they aren't happy about the loss, but things matter a little more at the end and the notion that a Minnesota PW team could run the table is a little far-fetched.
Credit to Rosemount. My guess is that Edina will be fine.

And the two B-1s played each other in the State final, the B2 and C both won district. This will be an interesting A team for Edina, there were some surprises in who finally made it (for those who think the team was picked in the summerSnowmass wrote: Wow. ITK guy....classy reaction. Make no mistake - Wayzata is full of "Cocky Flippin Cake Eater"s, as well.InTheKnow wrote:Just an FYI to Puck, Snowmass is a Wayzata guy not an Edina guy. Scores from Nov 4th.
Mahtomedi-9
Highland-2
Highland took it to the Zephyrs in the first period applying pressure to a good Mahtomedi team. But the Caps defense made one mistake and it resulted in Zephyr goal. At the Zephyr blue line, the Cap defense man went to pass, hesitated, made the pass. The hesitation telegraphed the pass to a Zephyr forward who steps up, intercepts the pass, and starts a 2 on 1 rush to give Mahtomedi a 1-0 lead. In a period where the Caps pressured the Zephyr defense, the Zephyrs came out on top.
It set the pattern for the Zephyrs for the remainder of the game. After adding a quick second goal at the opening of the second period, the Zephyrs defense finally gave up a rebound goal at the 10 minute mark cutting their lead to 2-1. Two minutes later, the Zephyrs scored on a rebound shot of their own to take a 3-1 lead, only to have the Caps score two minutes later on a power play goal to close the lead to 3-2.
Then the pattern set in, the Caps would be applying pressure on the Zephyrs in their zone, a Zephyr forward would breakout and score. It happened twice within a minute at the 3 minute mark and with four seconds left in the period. All three times the goalie was cleanly beaten. The second period ended 6-2.
The Caps in the third period had their chances to get back into the game. They dominated the first two thirds of the period, controlling the puck in the Zephyrs zone, aided by three Mahtomedi penalties (including a 5 on 3 situation). They had numerous shots, but could not put the puck on the net. Everything shot missed until a Zephyr broke the Caps attack and scored on another breakaway at the 3 minute mark. The Zephyrs added two more goals to end the game, 9-2.
It was a tough D2 loss for Highland and a good win for the Zephyrs. Mahtomedi has size and speed at the forwards and their defense is tough. The Caps shots will eventually find the net and they will improve their defense on breakaways.
Eden Prairie-3
Farmington-2
The first 15 minute stop time period was cleanly skated with few stoppages. Farmington pressured the Eden Prairie goal more than their goal was pressured by Eden Prairie; but Eden Prairie got the lucky bounce when a shot going wide of the Farmington net glanced off a skate and accelerated into the side of the net. The first period end 1-0.
In the second 15 minute period, Farmington dominated the game and held Eden Prairie in their zone for two and three minutes at a time. Finally with 5 minutes left in the period, the Tigers drew a penalty. Eden Prairie set up in the Tigers zone and scored a power play goal. It was the Eagles first shot on the net in the second period. It came at the four minute mark.
With 30 seconds to in the period and after being pinned in their own zone for three minutes, the Eagles got their second shot on goal on a breakaway. They scored to take a 3-0 lead into the third period.
After cleaning the ice, a 17 minute stop time third period was played. Eden Prairie applied some pressure in the first five minutes to give the game an up and down feel. Early in the period, the Tigers thought they had scored, but the referee denied the goal, blowing the whistle after the kids started celebrating.
Then the Tigers really started to lock the Eagles up in their own zone and finally scored on a tip-in off a pass from the deep left corner to the right side of the net. It was a nice bang-bang combination that cleanly beat the goalie. It had to be or it would not be a score.
Pulling their goalie with 1:30 left on the clock, the Tigers launched a disciplined six man attack and scored their second goal at the one minute mark when the forward cleaned beat the Eagle goalie on a “top shelf” score to cut the Eagles lead to one. The last minute was a donnybrook mostly played in the Eagles zone with Farmington having numerous shots on net, but they couldn’t beat the goalie. Eden Prairie won 3-2.
Eden Prairie has a good team with size and skill at the forwards, but the Eagles were dominated by the Tiger defense that could play well inside the Eagle's blue line and still run down the Eagles forwards. Great goal tending was the key to the Eagles victory.
Score from Nov 3
Eagan-2
St. Louis Park-0
Two matched teams played a good game. The outstanding play of the game occurred in the third period when a St. Louis Park forward locked the Wildcats up in their own zone for over a minute by single handed skating board to board, behind the net and to the point to knock the puck loose, pick the loose puck up, shoot on net, chase the puck down, steal possession and attack the goal again. At peewee A speeds, it was quite a feat and something to watch. Too bad he didn’t score.
Eagan’s two goals came in the second period, the first on a power play when a shot from the point hit the goalie’s blocker and deflected into the net; and the second when the puck found the goalies 5-hole out of a melee in front of the St. Louis Park net.

council member, thanks for the vote of confidence for Apple Valley. I would say in the ebb and flow of youth hockey, this might not be Coon Rapids finest moment. But they are led by 3 very good players and have 3-4 injuries already. middle of the pack in d10 is reasonable I would think. The teams were well matched. There's hope in Apple Valley, but this team is not going to rival a few years ago that had Michealson and Fasching et al.council member retired wrote:coon down this year?ctbrow1 wrote:Apple Valley 3
