What Do You Do
So last weekend I was down in Faribault watching the championship game for district 4 bantam A. It was between the AWAY team Faribault and The HOME team Albert Lea. So they turn off the lights and have the spotlight going. No music no exciting announcer, just the spotlight. So They Announce the HOME team Albert Lea First. Then the announce the AWAY Faribault team. the spotlight starts spinning, the music blaring, the announcer gets all excited and says "NOW FOR THE HOMETOWN TEAM, THE FARIBAULT FALCONS." In districts the point is to not FAVOR THE HOME TOWN. Am I right?? Something should be done. Please post some thoughts on what should happen!

Agree and don't agree. Home team, fine, let them have fun, but it is districts.........but they ARE hosting.... comes down to sportsmanship and respect...OreoSlaper09 wrote:So last weekend I was down in Faribault watching the championship game for district 4 bantam A. I'll throw this out there: when a high school team hosts a sectional tournement game, do they keep it even on the anouncements????

In high school, the first game of sections is typically hosted by the higher ranked team. And no, they don't keep the announcements even.defense wrote:Agree and don't agree. That first home game is earned, by record, and is purposely placed at the better team's rink in order to provide them that advantage.
After that, section games go to neutral sites, in order to avoid the home ice advantage.
I think it works fine. It's a small advantage for the team that earned the better record thoughout the season. That sounds perfectly fair to me.

Problem is, that this isn't high school, it's Bantams. Albert Lea never EARNED the right to host this District tournament, they were CHOSEN.WayOutWest wrote:In high school, the first game of sections is typically hosted by the higher ranked team. Where have you been? How did New Ulm do this year? Are you getting the respect your team deserves?

I'd be interested to know how it works out in section 8a then, since they have been rotating sites for semi's and finals between Theif River Falls, East Grand Forks, and Warroad for years. This year it has been in Warroad and I have to assume that the home town...err,,,the team representing the home town high school gets prefferential treatment. I'm not saying it is completely right, but it is still confusing.WayOutWest wrote:In high school, the first game of sections is typically hosted by the higher ranked team. It appears as though it may be up to the section to decide.
Warroad is the #1 seed in the section, so perhaps that was the deciding factor? Or, does the Warroad arena just have the best seating capacity in that section?
On the surface, it would seem a bit unfair that Warroad could have home games throughout.

Re: What Do You Do
The way I understand it, section 8a's best rinks are in Warroad, Theif River Falls (wether now at their Little Ralph or before at the Huck), and East Grank Forks and the section tourney rotates between them three regardless of who is the #1 seed.WayOutWest wrote:Oops.defense wrote:I'd be interested to know how it works out in section 8a then, since they have been rotating sites for semi's and finals between Theif River Falls, East Grand Forks, and Warroad for years. I was speaking from experience in what I see in section 6AA. Looking at all the brackets, it looks to be pretty inconsistent, actually. Some sections stick with the "first series is played at the high seed rinks" plan, and some throw that right out the window. In 8A, the play-in games look like they were played at the higher seeded team's rinks, but everything beyond that is being played at Warroad.
