NHL Draft
Does anyone know who are some of the top Minnesota kids that will be drafted in this years June draft? My son is younger so I don't follow the older kids.
Jake Gardiner is the highest projected (by NHL Central Scouting) MN kid at #22 overall, Ness is projected #35 overall, Danny Kristo at #40, Nick Larson #53, Justin Jokinen #60, Cory Feinhage #61. There's a few kids from Shattuck projected in the 70s. Go to http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/vi ... p?t=335017 for the whole scourting report.

With the exception of the top two picks, these rankings mean very little as the report has yet to be updated in its final ranking before June. These are merely projections and do not factor in the Europeans. Their will be quite a few surprises once the actual draft take place....komada77 wrote:Jake Gardiner is the highest projected (by NHL Central Scouting) MN kid at #22 overall, Ness is projected #35 overall, Danny Kristo at #40, Nick Larson #53, Justin Jokinen #60, Cory Feinhage #61. Those are old rankings folks!
Those are the Jan. Rankings fellas. There's no way Gardiner is higher than Ness now. They've changed quite a bit. Jokinen isn't that high either. I've heard he's dropped a ton. He started out high, based onlast years finish and who he played on a line with but I'm sure he'll fall further. Most the Shattuck kids will be higher towards the end of the season too. Look for Finage to keep going up though. I hear he looks pretty good in the USHL so far.
Who knows though, the NHL scouts know who they like and some have their favs and they, most times, don't often agree with the CSS rankings. I'm sure past drafts have made that pretty clear.

Sticksuphigh I agree with you 100% from what I have heard and have seen. Ness, Gardiner, and Stepan will be the highest three Minnesota kids. I think all three have been added to the USA U18 Team that will be in Moscow, Russia next month. I think all three are alternates at this point. That Central Scouting list really means nothing. The final list comes out in 2-3 weeks. There are cases where kids have moved up 50-60 kids from the mid term rankings. If you go to the Mcceens report it has all the kids bio on there and it's pretty accurate. His predictions in the past 3 drafts have been preety close to what happens in the first 3 rounds. He writes a great bio on Ness, and is right on with his upside and downside (If there are any downsides). His report on Stepan is also very good. The report says that Stepan might be the one true gem in the 2008 draft.

There is a way, and I know some people you can ask. I'm not sure what the Central Scouting list shows, but there are plenty of NHL scouts that love Gardiner and aren't crazy about Ness due to size. Or lack.bigwheelXXX wrote: There's no way Gardiner is higher than Ness now.

so what
The Roseau kid doing well in the NHL once weighed 275. It doesn't matter where you are from, it matters if they think you can help. Ness is great. Like me, his hockey career will undoubtedly see him held back because he's small. I don't know if that is in the NHL, in college, or where, but genetics matter.sachishi4 wrote:but ness played for little ol' roseau!
Gardiner isn't massive, but he is physically more impressive than Ness.

In reference to Gardiner going in the top 15...probably not. Look at Patrick White. He had an awesome hockey career and scored 8 goals in 6 games on the biggest stage in front of all the scouts and he goes 25th. I look for Gardiner to go later in the first round.

International Scouting Services recently came out with its latest Top 30 for the next NHL draft. It takes into account players from all over the world. They have Ness at #27 overall and Gardiner #30 overall. I think it is pretty amazing for a defenseman with Ness' size to be rated as high as he is. Just goes to show how highly his talent is thought of among scouts.
ISS March Top 30
Of course, when it gets to the actual draft, all it takes is for one team to like a player way more than other teams do and grab him way higher than he was projected. Look at Blake Wheeler as a prime example.

No, just happens to be a long time friend of mine. Sounds like you are a little jealous of Mr. Gardiner. From what I have seen of Jake, I think his ability speaks for itself.rbk2090 wrote:Was this scout one of his dads so-called buddies too..mulefarm wrote:Gardiner will be in the top 15. I'll bet Ness will goes highest of MN boys.rbk2090 wrote:Well put. Ness is not hype, he is the real deal. That is why he was Mr. Hockey.61ache wrote:Teams like who they like. GM's are going to base jack and crap on the CSS rankings. I'd be shocked if Ness isn't the first Minnesotan picked. That said, watch in June and you'll see how they go.![]()

I would say that the state tourney hurt Ness a great deal. It showed that he cannot play against above average teams. He did not score against decent teams and gave up alot of goals during this tournament. I am not sure why every one is in Love with him. What else can I say except that he will go early in the second round.
