Section 8AA stacked? Roseau is a step above everyone in the section and Moorhead is probably the only team that has a legitimate chance of beating them. Brainerd is always a disappointment. This is probably one of the weaker sections in the state. Even Section 1 will have more depth than Section 8 n...

By the way, you may want to include Jon Casey in your list because he "came" from Greenway.

Anyone remember the name of the Taconite Hornets goalie in the 60's?
He was great. He also was the first goalie that ever came out of the crease to play the puck.

Bill Joy was 1967. I would also add the following:

Rick Metzer 1965
Jimmy Lothrup 1962

The best was Jimmy Lothrup with Adam Hauser a close second.

The fallout from this move makes Bemidji's decision even more irritating. Anoka gets assigned to 7AA at a time when they will have an excellent team. Section 8AA will pretty much be an easy route for Roseau to return to state while 7AA gets even more difficult.

I agree with you. Last year when they had a decent bantam team the top players got way too much of the ice time. There is a reason they did not have a bantam team this year. The low numbers are a result of kids not feeling that they get enough playing time, with a special chosen few getting almost a...

With the addition of Anoka, don't be surprised to see the championship game at the Fairgrounds, if the Fairgrounds is available. The North only has three votes in any decision, the political power is definetly in the Southern half.

I meant Edina beat Duluth East in the finals 1-0. Edina's victory in the semis was over Roseau. I think if you look at the shots on goal in the Roseau/Edina game you'll consider it an upset. This "depth" argument is way over blown. When you have one superior line you only need two average ...

Two biggest upsets from a Northerners point of view were when Edina beat Roseau and the Broten line in the semis and Duluth East in championship 1-0 in the late 90's.

Saw Woodbury beat Cretin. Two things in particular are going to make it very difficult for them to beat Roseau. Their goaltending is average. Woodbury's goalie did make a good play on the penalty shot, but he gave up a lot of rebounds. Woodbury's defense seems a step slow. They are good enough to pu...

That's why I always admired Roseau. I'm not excusing Greenway, I repeat: I am disappointed in them. Any remarks I make about Bemidji and Hibbing can apply to Greenway. But that does not make my comments about Bemidji and Hibbing less valid. They can't win so they don't want to play. Once again, if G...

I stick by my analogy. The fact that Greenway did not opt up does not change my opinion about Bemidji and Hibbing. I guarantee that if Greenway had the same enrollments as either Bemidji or Hibbing they would opt up. It was disappointing that Greenway did not opt up, but they will be lucky to have a...

White Bear controlled this game from almost the start. The seemed to know what Roseville was going to do with the puck before Roseville did. Their backchecking was impressive. White Bear's breakout passes were right on the tape. Although Roseville's goaltending wasn't the best, the goose egg on the ...

Hibbing went through the same process that Bemidji is doing. They let the players decide. This is an example of the people in charge lacking the courage to make a decision. The adults (athletic director, school board) should be making the decision because they should be looking beyond the next two y...

RIP - Greenway

The Falls did a mercy killing in ending Greenway's season. At the start of the season I felt Greenway had 7 winnable games. They tied one of those (Eveleth) and lost one (Wadena). They did spring an upset when they beat Virginia. Even though Greenway's won-lost record was about what I expected, I wa...

East really seems to lack guys who can finish. This makes them more vunerable to an upset than any previous East team. I've seen East four times and they are well-coached, disciplined, and solid defensively; but, they really lack a true scorer. East still is the favorite but it would not be a big sh...

Moorhead played a great game. Their passing in the offensive zone is easily the best I've seen all year. They forechecked Hill-Murray right into the bleachers. This is a good example of how shots on goals can be very misleading. Hill-Murray only had a couple of times when they maintained their forec...

Rapids should be satisfied with a number 3 seed. The way they have been playing lately they only deserve a number 4 seed. It appears that Elk River is going to be the suprise winner of the Section. If Rapids draws Forest Lake, they will be one and done.

After last night tie, the following seedings seem likely.

1. CEC
2. East
3. Rapids
4. Elk River
5. Brainerd
6. Flake
7. who cares
8. who cares
9. who cares
10. care even less

The end result will be an East/Elk River final.

Greenway must have played a decent game. I would like to think they are starting to put it together, but their pattern is to play a decent game and then get blown out in the next one.

Two Harbors will play Ely. Silver Bay beat Two Harbors and Greenway smoked both Silver Bay and Two Harbors. I am assuming Hermantown beats Hibbing and Eveleth beats Greenway. The Lake Superior Conference has four decent to very good teams: Denfeld, Hermantown, Marshall, and Cloquet. Superior plays good Minnesota competition and that's why they get to state and more often than not win.
