Falls vs Greenway

Falls 5, Greenway 4
Saves: 36 for Falls
30 for Greenway

Greenway is playing better, but not good enough to get over the hump.

Coach Bruce LaRoque

I have nothing but admiration for this guy. The way he handled the goalie situation is first class. He gave the Rapids boys every opportunity to win the starting job before playing the Greenway transfer. Another classy move was not to start Underwood against Greenway. I don't think that was a coinci...

You can talk all you want about close losses to good teams, but that just proves that Rapids cannot win against a good team. You can rationalize all you want about what "could have", "would have", and "should have" happened, but the facts are clear: Rapids has no qualit...

The best seed Rapids can expect is #4. Rapids does not have a quality win and lost to Forest Lake. Even Rapids win against Cloquet is not that impressive given how badly Cloquet has fared recently (crushed by Blaine and Edina). Forest Lake will have a legitimate gripe if Rapids is seeded above them.

This is Rapids' last chance to beat a quality team. If they win a two seed is probable, if they lose, don't be surprised if they get a 4 or 5 seed. Rapids' play against Hibbing and Greenway does not inspire a lot of confidence. Anoka 3, Grand Rapids 2.

PuckRanger is right. If Greenway gets descent goaltending this will be a game. If not, Rapids wins easily.

Greenway is having a mediocre year. Now with the coaching turmoil I'm afraid the year will take a definite turn for the worse. What they are missing is a good goalie. A good goalie gives the whole team a lift and allows them to play at a higher level. Greenway's last tournament team is a testament t...

From the 60's it would have to be either Huffer Christianson from the Falls or Mike Antonovich from Greenway.

My sources tell me he was suspended for swearing at some (one?) players. What really seems to be going on is that they are trying to get rid of him so they are going to make things difficult for him. This seems underhanded, because they could easily not hire him for next year. Another problem is tha...

Section 7AA Down Year

The Section 7AA teams are solid, but there does not seem to be any quality teams. Andover: A dangerous team with no quality wins, but they tied Cloquet and took Anoka to overtime. The only team that has shown improvement over last year. Anoka: Good wins against Eagan and Blaine, but was easily handl...

Great analysis PuckRanger. Section 7A is basically two groups. Your top four seeds (Falls, Marshall, Virginia, Hibbing) and the 6 - 10 seeds that have no chance of winning a section game other than the play-in game. Any of the top four seeds could win the Section with the Falls and Marshall the favo...

There is a big difference between playing quality teams close and beating them. At some point Rapids is going to have be on the other side of one goal games. To learn how to win close games against good teams is indication of a team's confidence. If you continue to lose close games, the mental aspec...

Grand Rapids/Greenway Coop

I have not wanted to believe that a Grand Rapids/Greenway Coop was ever going to happen, but I am starting to change my opinion. For the second year in a row, Greenway does not have a bantam team. The numbers were up, but the coaches decided to move those kids (mostly eight-graders) to the JV. The J...

Denfeld to AA

The Duluth schoolboard has recommended that Duluth go to two high schools: East and Denfeld. Central will be closed. That means that the two remaining Duluth schools will have sufficient enrollment to be AA. This should allow Anoka to be moved out of Section 7AA in the near future.

Section 8AA stacked? Roseau is a step above everyone in the section and Moorhead is probably the only team that has a legitimate chance of beating them. Brainerd is always a disappointment. This is probably one of the weaker sections in the state. Even Section 1 will have more depth than Section 8 n...
