The main rule is 640(b) under Unnecessary Roughness. Specifically it talks about avoidable checks. Quoting from the situation manual " An ""avoidable check"" is one which is primarily done to punish the player who just had possession and control of the puck. The checking pla...

While reffing, I have seen a number of girls playing peewees or bantams this year. With very few exceptions they are the defensemen or corner muckers. They do not seem to be used on PP situations or surprisingly on PK. At peewees the girls generally are among the 3-4 largest players on their teams a...

Red Wing looked really good today. They had a nice battle with Northfield and came out on top 8-6. The Lakeville player (Fritz-Ward) looked very good for RW but RW has decent depth and a lot of it was young players. Blue wanted it more than Mayo did and won the other semi 2-0 with solid goaltending ...

It is nice to see many running to get on the Faribault bandwagon. This dominance is a teaser. The best is yet to come. Who is missing from Faribault that will be playing when tryouts start next week? Mayo does not have three of their top returning scorers (soccer?) and two of their veteran defensem...

Re: development

My 10 year old daughter improved 10 fold in one winter last year. She never played hockey and could hardly stand on skates at the first pracice. Was it her 1 hr of ice every 4 days in the association. NO. It was the 3 hours a night, 4 or so nights a week she spent in the neighborhood rink with her ...

Faribault looks real good in the 4x4 league. Bergland is skating very well. Salmonson and Dickison also look good. Northfield is also looking good. Dvorak has been scoring a lot. In last weekend's games they had 2 player that weren't wearing the regular league jerseys that looked real good too. One ...

The Rochester girls tourney is Thanksgiving weekend. The tourney includes 14UA, 12UA, 12UB, 10UA and 10UB. We need another 12UA and another 10UA team. The fee is $600. Contact Brenda Mackey at bmackey80@yahoo.com or try:

CoachK, contact Tito Elumba. Look on the D8 website for contact info. I'm assuming you're still in Eagan? I don't think your waiver will be approved by the Director to leave D8 unless you exhaust the possibilities within D8. Let me know if I can help.

I'm curious when the average twin cities association conduct their squirt tryouts. Do some of the AAA tryouts conflict with association tryouts and force players to choose which to attend? When my older son was a bantam, we were still in the playoffs and some of the showcase AAA tryouts conflicted. ...

Freddy, Thought I'd clarify what Rochester will be doing for peewees. A big concern for a lot of families is the cost of driving to an away game and the amount of time committed for approximately 14 minutes of skating per player. The plan is to have an A team and a B team entered in the D8 league. T...

Bmum, Yup. You are correct.

If you look on the various websites it shows the teams as being from a specific district. But, if you look at the Regionals playoff structure on the MNHockey website it refers to L8#1, L6#2 etc.

I can see Edina's decision on the girls side. Their girls program is probably twice the size of the next closest in the state. In District 8 there are a few associations that have two 12UB and/or 10UB teams. Most of us are still trying to consisitently fill an A and a B team at those levels. The skill levels at the B levels vary widely from association to association. Remember that youth ("boys") hockey was around...
