What a politicaly rigged event that turned out to be i watched every game there but 1 and i can't believe some of the guys that made this roster and a few that were left off, Hasbargen is a good d-man but he is so slow i saw him get burned many times at the great eight thank Eades for him making the team, Roberts from Mayo and Peckscamp from Sauk Rapids, don't deserve to be on that roster either they didn't show me anything, Neither did Battani, anyone going t watch don't look forward to a whole lot of passing, especially from that Gifford kid from Moorhead, they all try and skat teh puck it doesn't even reseamble a hockey game, whoever picks these teams already knows who will be on it before the great 8 regaurdless of their performance there, what a CROCK

typical

Post by ROYALELK »

I'm not suprised.Sounds like a typical selects tryout, some kids are deserving and some make it on the buddy system.I didnt even bother going down there this year just for that reason.I was hopeing that after we lost to Wisconsin last year things would change.I cant figure out how Ylitalo didnt make the team though, but i wasnt there so.......

Moorhead

How can you say that the kids from Moorhead dont pass? If my memory serves me Both Gifford and Deutz had 4 assists in the Great 8. You dont get assists by not passing.

One thing to remember is that some of the young men may have turned down the opportunity to travel to Chicago. I don't believe it's free, and it's a pretty big time sync, especially if you play Baseball or Track.

I won't disagree with the politics, however.

Jesrober, you can, in fact, get an assist by not passing, i.e. shooting the puck and your teammate putting in the rebound. I didn't see any of the games. I'm just saying that there are other ways to get assists.

From what I remember from last year, someone pointed out that they might try to have all the sections represented on this team. Not sure if that is true but it was pretty close last year also.

Have they ever???

Post by Triple Deke »

Have they ever picked players who can play an all around game???? Answer, no, they pick kids who skate up and down the ice, dangle around kids and backcheck but never actually get their man off the puck. I hope the defense and goalies are well prepared for a horrible European game.

Showcase

Post by oldschool »

Politics are all over the game of hockey period, always has, always will............................................
Beyond that, I read in the Star Tribune that the players selected on this team recently have been the one's who have NOT signed with a division 1 team, this would acount for some of the "screwed"......another thing to think about is the coach, is this really a "combine", meant to showcase kids for scouts??? or is it a tournement to see wich state has the best HS hockey???
If it is the latter(and it may differ team to team etc.) then the coach would put together a team he believes will win together....or he should if his plan is to win. Now don't get me wrong, all of these kids are good quality players, but if you want to know what I mean, watch the movie Miracle and see how the godfather of Minnesota hockey chooses his players...........
The fact that Team Minnesota doesn't take the top players necassarily is saying something too about the state of hockey in MN, they can win the thing 7 of 8 years without D-1 signees???? we need not worry about two classes for a state tourney..........

Bayers

Post by shutout »

I see B.J. Bayers name listed on the roster, I thought he had committed to Air Force and it was earlier stated that you could not play in the Chicago showcase if you had a D1 committment.

Bayers commitment

Post by Mucker »

B.J. recently committed, within the last 48 hours to Air Force. He then declined his invitation to the "Showcase", being replaced by Ryan Cramer (Int. Falls.).

Gifford

Post by hocke101 »

I played with Gifford last year and he passes very well. He scored a few goals for our team but was mostly effective because of his passing so I do not think he deserves that criticism. Those of you who dont agree with some of the picks have to remember it is only a three day tournament and some players may have just made a good impression. With only a couple games it is very hard not to make a few mistakes. I think that this team will do well and it will be a great visibility tournament for these players.

I believe it was Hartzel (spelling) who in the latest Let's Play Hockey said that the team was selected from Tourney play AND season play. He said some other things that you should all read before you slam the way it was done. They should be a good team. Good luck to them.

Hartzell

Post by hocke101 »

I think he said that about the Elite League but I could be wrong. I agree with you that people should stop complaining about this cause I think the team looks pretty good. Hartzell is going down with the team I beleive so he very well could have said that. Either way good luck boys.

i obviously could be wrong but i dont think any of the players would drop out now unless there is an emergency. all the players have accepted an invatation by now, the ones who declined (lundin, bayers) have already done so. so i doubt your buddy will get to play but i guess you never know.

The same politics go on in the select try outs. Eades and his
buds already know who they want on the team. The rest of the guys trying out have to prove themselves. And still some deserving players don't make it.

Can anyone tell me about Joe schuster who plays for Green Way? Is his dads name Joe Schuster also? I remember a guy in the early 80s who played football for Shattuck by this name he was a monster who went on to play football at the U of M. Just wondering.

The Coach- give me a break

Post by tooold2tell »

Is Dave Hendrickson the coach of this team? If so, I guess the good ole boy network is still working strong for all the Ted Brill cronies. Plenty of great High School coaches out there, and this is what they come up with. We need to get some younger people and minds on the board for "Minnesota Hockey", this has become a joke. Powerful old men, that pretend to know so much about our great game.

Chicago Showcase Team Scrimmage

Post by onedogtoomany »

The Chicago Showcase team left this morning for the windy city. Yesterday they scrimmaged the North Dakota team and won 4-1. Not alot of details on that game but the boys appear to be ready for this weekend.

There has been another change to the roster. It appears that Dustin Fulton choose not to play so Ryan Gunderson took his spot. I believe they open play on Thursday. Not sure of the schedule.

Take a look at the team rosters and pick you favorite High School. Mine is a kid from Florida that plays for "Pope John Paul II High School". Go Popes!

Play begins Wednesday. Team MN plays Team Indiana in the evening.
