2024 AA State Tournament Seedings

Post by O-townClown »

Interesting to consider how this shakes out, and it makes me appreciate the section finals even more this season. On paper the Thursday quarterfinals will be the least interesting in a while.

#1 - Minnetonka or (if Skippers lose) Wayzata/Edina winner
#2 - Wayzata/Edina winner or Chanhassen
NEXT - Maple Grove, Hill-Murray, St. Thomas, Andover

UNSEEDED - 1AA, 8AA

Here are the PS2 ranks for remaining teams

1. Tonka
2. Wayzata
3. Edina
4. Chanhassen
6. Maple Grove
11. Hill-Murray
12. St. Thomas
13. Andover
18. Centennial
20. Stillwater
22. Gentry
23. Cretin
25. Grand Rapids
28. Lakeville South
29. White Bear Lake
30. Elk River
39, Buffalo
61. Rochester C/JM

You're probably right on.

I think Centennial would nab a seed if they won. Will be interesting if someone other than Hill Murray wins 4AA.

Curious to see what the March 2nd update looks like with Andover and STA. Humans favored Andover more than STA (more so the coaches) at the end of the regular season, but STA's upset of Rosemount in sections makes the gap very close. I guess this is all a moot point if Cretin wins Friday.

Agree that quarters won't be very interesting. I'm not even that stoked for the semis with the drop off after the top two seeds. The championship is where it's at this year.

Lots of heavy favorites have lost QF and SF games over the years. You never know what’s going to happen once the puck is dropped. Come on people, you gotta believe

I agree completely, just pointing out the obvious reality that seeing two Top 5 teams meet in Sections THREE TIMES is nuts and most sections are very competitive within. Two QF games will involve a Top 3 team and one likely outside the Top 20. When those are close - H-M taking Tonka to OT in 2023 - it is exciting and enjoyable. That said, don't be surprised if we see a runner or two.

Yeah, unlike the Edina\Wayzata final, where there'll be lots of rusted beaters in the lot.

I've seen comments on Twitter/X about the 3AA final being the final no one wanted. And people think this forum is harsh...

Two privates, so they likely have the money for nice cars, unless the whole family budget is going towards education.

And there certainly are plenty of families that sacrifice to send their kids to private schools, it's very common.

I think it depends on whether all the kids to to private school or whether, I’m sure by pure coincidence, it’s just the kid who plays hockey who wanted to go to private school.

If they win on Friday, does Hill Murray have a claim to the #3?

Had one hiccup to Two Rivers; otherwise their losses in '24 have been to Tonka, Benilde & Edina. Also just smacked Maple Grove 2 weeks ago.

Hill Murray a 3 seed…. Phew. AA pretty down this year after the big 3 in the Lake and Chan.

I’m not sure AA is down much. Just think the top 4 or 5 are really up. Just my opinion.

Hill or MG could be the three. And the 3 may get a much better draw than the 4.

I’ll pile on. How it must feel for teams like BSM, Wayzata, soon Chan, maybe Tonka and EP to absolutely destroy each other all season and not even make State or the finals of their section. Then see Hill “battle” it out against…. Wait, who? 😬

I'll take 4 with a Chanhassen #1 on Friday night.

Well.....certainly have had some wrenches thrown in the plan.

Chanhassen IN / Tonka OUT.
Centennial IN / Maple Grove OUT
Rochester IN / Lakeville South OUT (Not that they would have been a seed).

Hill Murray/White Bear/St Thomas Academy/Cretin: You're up next.

I'll take #3 with a #2 Chanhassan in the opener on Friday.

Normally a first time team coming in at #2 is dangerous. But it's hard to see Chanhassan losing to one of the random draws.
