Any chance HF could lure Noel Rahn back? Seems like that program has been in a tail spin since he left. I know him and the old AD didn’t see eye to eye.

There’s no reason for him to come back. I thought he rode off into the sunset once his kid graduated. I don’t see any reason why he’d want to jump back in at this point. Have you heard otherwise?

Would be nice to have Lee Smith back in the MSHSL, but I'm sure he's not missing the politics out in Utah now. If Salt Lake ends up with an NHL franchise, it's more opportunity for him to grow the sport out there.

In 2022-23 the Fire was #8 rated AA team by PS2 and defeated eventual state runners-up Edina. I'm not seeing the tailspin.

I believe 3 years in a row they have failed to win a playoff game under Westrum. He has never won a playoff game. Also finishing 3rd in a single A Wright County Conference is unacceptable.

Sylvia has been around for a few years now while it’s Crowley’s first year. With both having kids moving into the HF system maybe they’re set on staying long term. Who knows, but if it ain’t Westrum and a new HC steps in there’s always changes at the associate level and I don’t think either want the stress of a full time HC gig.

IMO a good candidate would be Theros but I’m not sure if he’d come back at this point considering he’s made advances at the junior level…

Or the fact Westrum was suspended for 3 weeks earlier in the season for leaving the bench in the Edina game trying to fight one of the coaches.

Utah is a great place for Lee Smith. There are many better candidates out there then Lee Smith. Plus Holy Family is a Catholic School. Why would they want to put up with all his off ice shenanigans and behavior?Coaches are supposed to be good role models for their players.

A fair question, given BSMs lack of section success. But he has his teams consistently in the top 10-15, but saddled with a brutal section his teams haven’t gotten over in recent years. His teams seem to play a very offensive minded game and I think he’s considered a too tier coach by many.

Maybe there are higher expectations when enrolling there, but since their ‘12 title, he’s been to multiple section finals (13, 14, 19, 20, 22). They’ve definitely been at a higher level than HF. They were objectively a top-5 team in the state this year & seem to be pretty consistent.

I get what you’re saying, but I think they’re in a different league than HF.

While some of his past teams underachieved, I thought he did a great job with this year's squad.

The Red Knights seemed to have a philosophy shift this season, in addition to personnel changes. This year they played a defensive-minded, team-oriented brand of hockey.

It reminds me of the change Curt Giles made at Edina for the 2009-10 season. I believe he learned from the 2009 state quarterfinal loss to Moorhead that to win a championship Edina needed to rely on depth and defense. In 2010 they won it all and the rest is self-evident.

I am very much not a Benilde fan but if I was, I would be very pleased with how this season played out.

Gotcha. Thought you were talking on the coaching side (since that’s the topic) and I was fairly certain their staff (both Varsity and JV) have all been there at least a few years.
