Gopher Recruits
Gopher Recruits
This is the following list of recruits from Inside College Hockey:

Mike Carman (06)
David Fischer (06)
Ryan Flynn (06)
Erik Johnson (06)
Kyle Okposo (06)

Jay Baribal (07)
Cade Fairchild (07)
Kevin Wehrs (07)
Tony Lucia (07)

Mike Hoeffel?

When did they ink Hoeffel and Fairchild? Anyone else on their radar for 07/08? Looks like they are done for 06.

Hoeffel
I could be wrong but I believe he just gave them a verbal, and can't actually sign until his senior year (he is only a junior).

Good looking recruiting classes for the next 2 years though. Are you sure that Fischer is coming in next year? If so that is impressive coming straight from high school, I might have to get to an AV game this year.

Recruits
Two interesting points:
1) All recruits are from MN. Is this a coincidence or a shift in direction of where the Gophers are recruiting?
2) All 9 players listed could be playing high school but 7 are playing in the USHL or the NDTP!
Is there a message?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>Penalty Shot at: 12/6/05 3:35 pm

Fischer
I believe that David Fischer is coming in next year, but someone will have to come in and back me up on that one.

It would be nice to see him at 6-3 and Erik Johnson at 6-5 take some space at the blue line. Size is something we have not enjoyed as much as UND in the past few years.

Re: Recruits
I don't see much of a change. This year 20 of 26 on the Gopher roster are from MN. I think the Gophs prefer to recruit MN kids but go after the best talent (eg Kessel, Irman, Potulny, Chucko) given their system and style of play.

The 1988 birth year in MN has lots of talent.

Kids go the the NDTP and USHL to develop as quickly as they can to get to this level eg play for the top D1 schools in hopes of getting to the next level.

Re: Recruits
Yes Fischer is for sure coming to the Gophs next year. The first post has it right on the money with the 06 recruits and likewise with the 07. Fairchild and Hoeffel both gave verbals neither has inked yet as far as i know, but i don't see where else they would go since the U has no doubt shown interest in both players and once its a verbal to the U its pretty much gold.

Actually Fisher is not for sure going to the U next year. The U wants to see how he does this year and they also want to see if he gains any weight. As of right now he is about 6'3'' 175. He had mono this past summer, so that hurt him as I heard he was all the way down to 160-165. Also it would be in his best interests to play a year of juniors. He would get better and a lot stronger in that year in between high school and college. Also next year we onlylose Harrington and Atherton and unless Hagemo is still hurt, which I doubt, Fisher would have to beat someone out for a spot to play. And there is no way he can beat out Erik Johnson, Hagemo, Goligoski, Vannelli, and Peltier. He would have to beat out RJ ANderson, who has improved his play by a lot recently. So do not get me wrong but it would be in Fisher'sbest interest to play juniors.

Re: Heineken Kid
Ic, well in the pioneer press it listed the 06 recruits and he was in that and that was last week, i had no clue about the whole mono thing. BTW thank god we're gettin rid of Harrington, he has no offensive skills, losing the put almost every rush he makes, and did anyone see Earl walk him like he was standing still last Friday night? Just pathetic, it makes me sad since almost every year in recent Gopher dominance that we could always count on having that one or two unbelieveable defensemen: i.e. - Leopold, Ballard, hell even Judd Stevens last year didn't leave as much to be desired as Harrington does.

U recruits
ditto, well said green brew. Have you seen Fischer's game? I have watched David play several times. He is no Ballard replacement, yet right now there is an inadequate supply of high end MN HS defensemen. A year in the USHL will push him forward.

recruits
Sorry for going off of the high school subject but this relates somewhat to the subject.

Does anyone know if the situation with Tyler Hirsh skipping this year (due to personal issues) is going to impact how many recruits the gophers take in next season? I am guessing that they will keep an extra roster spot for him...but am not sure how the recruits/scholarships will work...
