Grant Clafton did something last year in coaching that Reed Larson hasn’t sniffed. Grand Rapids needs a great coach. Not another former NHLer that played high school puck in Grand Rapids. That run last year Clafton led those Greenway boys on Was EPIC/Legendary
Most Greenway people expect Clafton to leave at some point but if he were to get the Rapids job the timing really is bad. I hope he understands the bad spot he’ll put Greenway in. I assume Sertich would take over. His style of coaching is very different. Nothing like adding fuel to a rivalry.

I totally agree that Clafton should see those seniors through there final HS season.

Where do you's private investigators pick up your intel? Late night bars?
Never rule out anything this day in age.
Where else would you get it when you’re on the Range?

Ain't that the truth
As for coach Nuch. Very sad week to hear of this. I hope he and his family can heal from an unfortunate ordeal and for many people a sickness they struggle to control. Thoughts and prayers extended to Nuch and his family on road to recovery. Here hoping for better days ahead for the family.

If that’s true then he needs to step down as Team North HS Elite League Coach
I agree with you in that high school coaches shouldn’t be coaching in the Elite League. Team selection is a conflict of interest. But why is that different if he’s coaching at Rapids vs Greenway?

Not sure where you get your info, but Reed never played in the NHL. Was a very nice player for Rapids in high school. I believe played his college hockey at UW Superior. Initially went to UMD to play football...was a good linebacker. He’s a total character guy. Clafton assisted for the THawks a few years ago and was let go after one season. From what I hear, can be pretty negative. He, just like Klatt a couple years, had the horses last season. Players win the games, not coaches! He’d probably do just fine, but I believe Reed is a better fit for a program that’s been through some bumpy times recently.

Reed played his high school hockey at Grand Rapids High School in Minnesota, graduating in 97'. He played his junior hockey with the Bismarck Bobcats in 98'-99' and played Division III with the University of Wisconsin-Superior from 00'-03' where he was a member of the 2002 NCAA D-III National Championship team.
Of course, he did play in the NHL.
Reed David Larson is a retired professional ice hockey defenseman and former captain of the Detroit Red Wings who played 904 regular season games in the National Hockey League between 1976 and 1990.
Of course, it is a different Reed but still a MN boy.

Yeah, it's lame to leave a few weeks before practice begins, but the virus of constant shuffling of players and coaches has infected the 218 completely now, too. Great get, IMO, for GR. Yes, Clafton had the horses, but he squeezed every ounce of talent and effort out of those players, and they were always peaking come playoff time.
Let's not forget that Greenway wouldn't have made it to state without the two top-six forwards and goalie that transferred there that season. Live by the transfer, die by the transfer: Just like Cloquet is experiencing this year.
Loyalty to community and teammates is a thing of the past. Sigh.

3 DWI’s in 5 years. I like the guy he is a good man I hope he gets the help he needs.

He should be able to find a coaching gig over in 'Sconi.
Question: best team on paper. In 7AA this year, what are the ranks for best talent on the team 2-7. I know it doesn’t mean everything, but I’m curious as to what our forum dwellers think...

Heard from a very reliable source that Grant turned down the Rapids job.
Heard the same. Wise move on his part. His style of coaching would not work in Rapids. Bit of a payback?
I’m thinking Grand Rapids hires an interim for this year with and understanding Clafton will Coach Grand Rapids next year. He wants to see this senior class through at Greenway. That’s smart and that’s perfect. Rapids needs a guy like Clafton in charge.
