Packers???
It looks like Adam Sandler may have done the remake of one of the greatest football movies ever a little too early Wild77....If he had waited till now, he could have used real Packers on the cons team! Jeez...I've longed for the good old police blotter days of James Lofton et. al.

Re: Packers???
I agree...they probably should move their practice facility to Stillwater

PS. sorry for being off topic

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >wild77 at: 4/27/05 3:33 pm

Re: Topic??
Any word on who is gonna be the new coach in Greenway, & what is up with the rumor mill in Grand Rapids. Resources around a couple big work sites in Grand Rapids are hinting to me a new coach or whole coaching staff might be in the works.

Something tells me when Grand Rapids has had the kind of teams they have had in the past 5-6 years they should have made it to state atleast 3-4 times. So what is it, the coach, not coaching the kids & getting them to play, or is it the kids just doing what they want.

Greenway Coach
dhraider,
The new coach at Greenway will be Gary Gustafson. Gary, I believe graduated from Greenway in 1983 or around that time and went on to play at Bemidji State University back when they were D-II. He should be great with the kids. However what may hurt him the most is the small numbers now at Greenway. I wish him the best of luck in single A and perhaps one day returning to the AA ranks.
As for Grand Rapids nothing confirmed just yet...we will have to just waite and see about this story.

gustason
If Gary is named the head caoch and has Vekich with him, Greenway High School Hockey is in good hands.

Sounds Good
Sounds like a good "1 - 2 punch." Have you heard anything about GR?

Re: Grand Rapids
All I know is that is sounds like kind of a funny deal going on in GR.

Re: weisjahn
This is old but in case you have not heard; Todd has been hired as Armstrong's head coach. He will bring Tim Lloyd, probably Nick Olson as goalie coach and possibly Bruce Johnson as an assistant. Murray Ginther will handle the JV.

Coaching Openings
Any new word on the open positions:

Minneapolis Southwest
Orono
STMA (if it is open)

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: Coaching Openings
Highly capable Wes Durand got the Southwest position. Good luck Wes. Hopkins youth board did not think he was good enough to coach the Bantam A team a year ago, but now he is coaching High School hockey in Minnesota. Go figure, that is why Hopkins is a second class hockey community with the same non hockey people making hockey decisions.

Re: Coaching Openings
pavel16. good luck to durand at southwest. the hopkins hockey community is, one can argue, second class. case in point: rogue swenson, a hopkins youth coach will excellent credentials, was never even offered an interview for the high school position a few years ago. they ignored him completely from what my sources tell me. the two new coaches from two harbors continued with the hopkins tradition of getting waxed in sections...just a complete thumping at the hands of jefferson. what else is new.

Re: Coaching Openings
Wasnt Fairbault, Hutchinson and St Paul Academy open also? Does anyone know about those being filled?

Re: Coaching Openings
Hutch is not open - they are looking for an assistant. I don't believe SPA or Faribault have named coaches yet.

Pavel/Gandy Dancer
But, it's not like Southwest is an upper echelon team, either. Hockey is fading fast in the inner city. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: Pavel/Gandy Dancer
Its still HS hockey. He will gain experience and move onto greater things. Hes only 25. The Bantam A coach at Hopkins is a nice guy but the kids do not get better playing for him. All good coaches develop the kids from 1st line to 3rd line.

Southwest
I'm glad that a good and enthusiastic young coach is willing to work in Minneapolis. The kid will only get better and I say best of luck to him. It seems that Hopkins high school has had its hands full trying to beat the Minneapolis teams! As was previously posted - high school hockey is still high school hockey. If you're qualified to coach a high school team, you sure heck should be able to coach bantams!

Point Taken
My post had nothing to do with whether he could coach or not, I have no basis to formulate that opinion. But, schools like Southwest can also take a coach down. You can only lose for so long! Also, throughout the Metro there are fine youth coaches who could handle a high school program, but because of time commitments, personality, etc. are comfortable staying where they are. Most good coaches have been turned down for opportunities somewhere in their past, so because someone is hired at Southwest, doesn't mean they were the right fit for a youth program. No reason to slam the current coach at Hopkins either, because he took a position that the Association must have been comfortable having him in. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: Point Taken
Agreed. That's why I'm pleased to see people who are willing to still work in programs that are no longer what they once were - especially in Minneapolis. It could only help high school hockey if hockey in the city could get off life support. Sadly, it most likley won't happen. But I'd like to hold out a thin hope (very thin) that it's possible!

The Hopkins high school job is hardly upper echelon and that's why it's field of candidates has been so thin the last few times it opened up as well.

(For the record, I also don't think it's appropriate for people to slam a bantam A coach. Any guy who volunteers should be thanked - not ripped by someone who hides behind an anonymous message board.)

I also agree taht there are some very good youth coaches who could clearly coach at the high school level. MANY high school coaches got their start by coaching minor hockey.
