Is District 6 getting jobbed only sending two teams from this strong group to Regions?

Yes, D6 is clearly getting jobbed by Minnesota Hockey.

Four teams (of the six(!!!) teams in the district) are currently ranked in the top ten in three polls. (Only EP Red and Edina White are not ranked in the top ten.)

Current Rankings

EP Black (LPH #1, MHR #1, YHH #2)
Minnetonka (LPH #3, MHR #2, YHH #5)
Edina Green (LPH #4, MHR #5, YHH #3)
Chaska/Chan (LPH #8, MHR #10, YHH #6)

LPH = Let's Play Hockey (http://www.letsplayhockey.com/latest-ra ... youth.html)
MHR = My Hockey Rankings (http://myhockeyrankings.com/rank.php?y=2011&a=b&v=2145)
YHH = Youth Hockey Hub (http://youthhockeyhub.com/youth-hockeyrankings/)

Good luck to all four teams, looks like it will be harder to make it out of the district then it will be to make it out of the National Region to go to State. American Region could have five of the top ten teams in it. and Olympic with only one.

I stand by what I said. The quality of these games/teams is not what it once was. All of them have been depleted on the top end by defections to various high schools. They might be the best teams in D6, but they're not as good as they could have been.

Quite a few other than you think they are not only the best in D6, but the best in the entire state. That must mean the quality of hockey is down for the everywhere.

I don't know what games you've been watching, but U14 hockey in D6 has NEVER been as good as it is now. It MAY have been a little better if a handful of freshmen weren't playing HS, but it is still better than anything in recent memory.

So does the winner's of 2/21 games play to advance to play the loser of the 2/22 game for the # 2 seed?

Is Edina Green going to get another shot at Minnetonka?

Here's a link to the D6 U14A playoff bracket. D6 playoffs are a grind but I like the way they do it.

Green has to make it through Edina White and the winner of EP Red and Chaska/Chan/Burnsville. If they make it through that they get to play against the loser of the EP Black/Minnetonka game. A tough road.

Does anyone know why so many teams from D8 advance to regions (4) while D6 and others get only 2?

There are more teams in district 8 than there are in the other districts.

There are more teams in district 8 than there are in the other districts.

D2 (2 seeds to region), 6 teams (Roseville, Highland, Stillwater, Mahtomedi, WBL, NE Metro)
D6 (2 seeds to region), 6 teams (Edina Green, Edina White, EP Red, EP Black, Minnetonka, Chaska/Chan)
D8 (4 seeds to region), 9 teams (Hastings, REV, Woodbury/CG, Lakeville, Farmington, Rochester, SIbley Area, Owatonna, Eagan)

Both D2 and D6 will advance 33% of their teams.
D8 will advance 44% of their teams.

If they would have set this up to give D8 three seeds and gave a play-in game for the third seed for D2 and D6, then D8 would have advanced 33% of their teams and D2 and D6 would have advanced either 33% or 50% of their teams, depending on who won the play-in game.

Three teams left in D6: Eden Prairie Black, Minnetonka, and Chaska

Minnetonka and Chaska play on Friday with the winner of that game facing EP Black in the D6 championship on Saturday.

D6 will play a second championship game on Sunday should both teams have one loss. This allows them to produce a #1 and #2 seed.

Actually, Chaska was eliminated by Minnetonka on Friday night.

Eden Prairie defeated Minnetonka 4-2.

So, the seeds from D6 are:

1. Eden Prairie
2. Minnetonka

Looks like someone with adequate long division skills is required, although it's too late for Edina.

Maybe they started out with two teams for districts 2 and 6, and three for district 10 (all advancing 33%) and used a lottery to see who gets the final spot. To do a play in you'd really need a three team mini-tournament which is just plain ugly.

Edina picked a bad time to get cold. It was odd not playing big green for D6 tournament champion.

Edina was decimated by defections to HS. They could have used the 7 kids who left. Or 4, or any number of them.

Every team can cry about the talent that left for high school. Look at the talent that left EP 14's Hanscom(Holy Family),Lund(Blake),Bullock(Blake),Johnson(EPHS),Jamar(EPHS),Boyle(EPHS),Dahlquist(EPHS), and Heppelmann(EPHS). ( They were all on the 12U State Championship team.) With all those girls gone, EP has some how found a way to compete.

Given the number of girls in their program Edina is in perhaps the best shape to survive being "decimated". I remember two years ago there was some impressive talent playing on Edina 12B teams. This year Edina commited the sin of not improving enough as the season progressed. They started out a good team and ended up a better team. EP started out OK and got a lot better. Early wins were by the talents and efforts of a few. Now everyone is making contributions. I still wouldn't want to face Edina Green when the bounces go their way.

I think you can say the same about Tonka. In contrast to either EP or Edina, Tonka started out barely being able to field 2 teams, with only one returner moving up to varsity. They relied on some 12U players to move up to shore up the numbers. They started off solid, and have improved as a team. It's hard to take seriously any complaint from Edina about losing players when, despite the defections, they easily field 3 teams, and have 5 teams at the 12 level in the pipeline.
