No, I'm not on the team but I know people on the team that agree. Schack is overrated and, yes, he scores but that's partly because he refuses to pass. He's big and people notice him but he's not as good as people say he is.

Herein lies the problem with the whole all-tournament team selection process...

The members of the media, or anyone for that matter, cannot watch ALL of the games. It is physically impossible to be at Mariucci Arena and at the X at the same time. There is also much less interest in the consolation games, thus reducing the exposure of the players in the consolation bracket. When it comes time to vote, just like in the political voting booth, star power will put some guys on the team, perhaps replacing a more deserving individual who simply didn't get noticed because nobody was watching.

Also, the fact that the voting for the team is done by the time the championship game is over, may leave a player or two off because they played their best game of the tournament in the final and everyone has already cast their votes.

Harkening back to Niskanen... I watched the videotape of both of Virginia's games again, and now I'm even more convinced he deserves to be on the team.

The announcer in the St. Thomas game was too busy telling stories through most of the game to give Niskanen (or anyone else) any credit... He actually went so far as to say "He was a huge factor early, but he's been quite for most of the period". Niskanen took 6 shots (remember, he's not a forward), 4 of which went on goal in that period, one went in, he broke up 7 plays in the defensive zone, and dropped two St. Thomas players at center ice on solid checks. Not to mention the numerous times he won the battles in the corners, rushed the puck end to end, and made excellent breakout passes. All while "being quite for most of the period." It seemed the announcer was too enthralled by the eight grader to give anyone else... including other deserving St. Thomas players... the credit they deserved. He hardly mentioned the play of Cam Voss, among others from both squads, who was superb in the game. So to those of you basing your thoughts on just that one telecast are missing the boat completely.

I think Aaron Marvin should have definitely been on the all tournament team as he played well the ENTIRE tournament and was a factor in each of the games Warroad played and I personally think he should have taken the spot of the Schroeder kid. I mean no disrespect to him as a player as he did have one heck of a first game but I think the vote for him was based more on potential and being the "darling" of the tourney versus overall performance during the entire tournament.

Marvin

I agree he had a fantastic tournament, but just so you know, they do kind of follow a format in picking the team. The two teams in the championship usually get 3 players each, the third place team usually gets 2, 4th place team usually gets 1, and 3 players from the teams that played in the consolation bracket. Thats why I am assuming Marvin didnt get it, not because his lack of performance.

i was going to say who disagreed with who said niskanen shouldnt have been. hes the only one who did anything, whole team was flat footed, and one player cant do anything on his own. he did darn good for the team not doing anything. he will be a blast to watch at UMD next year. I am predicting 100mph on his shot at the CCM skills comp.
