Brained is a great example. In my area Kingsland played a 9 man schedule then was a 1A team come playoffs.

District schedules were supposed to make this better, I think it just made it worse. As an example Faribault played no games against section opponents. Neither did Brainerd.

Section 1 goes 5-1 in the quarterfinals. 4 of the 5 wins were in running time. Mayo was only team to go down but I think that was expected, West beat STA though keeping Southern Minnesota alive in all 6 classes we compete in.

Mahtomedi is very good and can score. They were beating STA in the 4th quarter. Since they already made the final I make them the favorite right now.

Section 1 goes an impressive 4-1 in the semi finals. Add South in 6A and West in 5A and it is even better for the South. We take some deserved heat in hockey but we are taking a wrecking ball to the rest of the state in football yet again.

LeRoy posts their biggest margin of victory all year in a state championship game. They had 16 players dressed!

Chatfield has their best player ejected (rightfully) in the semifinals and still wins. West wins as does South! Another success for the South!

Coming up on another season…..John Marshall just hired a 28 year old as their head coach. Their 3rd coach in 6 years. This was once one of the top jobs in the state…..I am wishing the new coach the best of luck. I know him well, he played football and ran track with one of my sons.

LeRoy Ostander won a state title last year…..it is 50/50 they can field a varsity team this fall.

An aside….. please officiate…. I have two varsity games 6 of the 8 weeks of the regular season. Because we don’t have enough officials to work on Fridays.

1AA, same thing. Caledonia had the second longest winning streak in the country behind Matre Dei of California (?) in the history of high school football but were never a top QRF team in Minnesota

What a game, who knows if an extra week of practice makes a big difference but it sure looked like it helped. A tight end catches 3 TD passes out of a power T formation, nearly throws for another then gets it rushing. Incredible!

FWIW USC may have worst tackling I have ever seen in a top 20 D1 program. Maybe except Oklahoma….. they are coached by Lincoln Riley.

USC was up 17-3 with a National Championship to play for and lost 37-24. The best athletes don’t always beat the best team.
