Post by Ice the puck »

Tryout criteria for bantams.

Players will be evaluated on the following criteria:

SKILLS
Stickhandling - passing - shooting

SKATING
Forwards - backwards - crossovers - balance - flexibility - quickness

GAME SITUATIONS
Aggressiveness - plays within the systems - hockey sense - make something happen - plays up to his ability - willing to accept being a role player - durability

ATTITUDE
Cares - treats teammates with decency - behavior and off the ice - behavior in the locker room - gets up to bench early - school work - poison - mopes - sulks - always makes excuses - willing to listen and get better

GAMES
Can he play at this level? Is he playing at his best now or will he get better and contribute to the team as year goes along? Will he hit and get hit? Does he enjoy being on the ice or is it a job? Does he have hands?

PRIORITIES
1) family 2) school 3) religion 4) hockey

I would pick the entire summer hockey team based on that criteria alone.

People love to lambast them because they say their priorities are family, religion, and school but two years later they move their kids 400 miles away to live with strangers while attending a public high school and playing in the USHL. Did the top three priorities get flushed or was #4 really #1?

Gotta love a school that costs so much you can get financial aid if you make up to 250K

This tryout criteria was used by a bantam A coach....there is not a coach around who could accurately score the players on all those items during a one-week tryout process.

From what I was told, he created the criteria so he could justify his selections and not have to take players he had chosen the year before.
