Section 6A has seen some movement in the latest drawing of the sections. Gone are Little Falls, St. Cloud Cathedral, River Lakes and Sartell, in are Northern Lakes and Willmar, putting the section at 8 teams.

Fergus has been impressive, I feel, but most thought they would be. I think there is a pretty big drop from them to the rest of the field, Section 6A appears to be theirs to lose.

Northern Lakes put a nice win at Brainerd on their resume (Brainerd appears to be down this year) and only lost by 3 to Fergus.

Alexandria, oof, I don't know what to say. Fall in a hole to Sartell, battle back but still take a loss. Beat River Lakes, a team they should beat. Jump all over Little Falls 5-0 and 6-1, only to have Little Falls come back and win on a shorty in OT 7-6. Then go down 4-0 to Minneapolis at home, but try to battle back again and fall 4-2. Jeckyl and Hyde, to say the least.

Wadena-Deer Creek seems to be the best of the rest.

I hope to make it to the Alexandria/River Lakes game this Thursday at the RCC. I have only caught streaming feeds of the Cardinals so far.

I personally think Alexandria is better than Northern Lakes and I think they will give Fergus Falls all they can handle. For me watching Alexandria I worry about the goaltending. They also seem prone to momentum swings meaning when it goes bad it goes really bad... Like digging holes against Sartell & Minneapolis and letting LF score 6 unanswered goals. Its still early I like the pieces the Cards have they compared to Northern Lakes but I am going off of results right now.

Fergus has been my team all year. I love the Otters they have Johnson and DeBrito up front and to me Ben Swanson is the top 5 goalie in Class A and doe snot get enough credit. Just so hard to judge the Otters due to schedule but games against Alexandria and Warroad will be very telling.

Wadena Deer Creek looks improved but still in a normal 6A they would be 7 seed.

Overall should be fun to see how it plays out!

I see Alex gave up a goal in the first minute and last minute of the first period and then 2 in the first two minutes or less of the second.
That is when I started watching.

And other than the Mpls first line play it was pretty much in the Mpls zone. Mpls goalie played real well.
But if I were to bet on them playing 4 more times Ales would win 3 of them.

Alex is a team you cannot sleep on and after a few more games when the coach figures out who to play and when and how much
they will give Fergus a game for the trip to the X.
Just my opinion of course.

The exact workings of the QRF formula are a mystery, which is too bad if certain sections (and even whole sports like football) are going to use it for seeding. I know one of the major complaints is that there is an automatic disparity between teams in different classes, regardless of demonstrated quality. I think winning or losing are weighted heavily, and margin of victory or loss is minimized or even ignored.

Re: Alex goaltending… Obviously the coaches see the practices and have more intimate knowledge of the situation, but from what I have seen of Pfeffer over parts of two seasons (11 games now), he doesn’t seem to be the answer. His overall save percentage is 0.857. That is obviously not good, and it seems worthwhile to at least give Evink a shot at starting more often.
