Thanks for posting.
Funny talk with an official that works HS games this weekend about SOG. Long story short is save percentage can be a spurious number because of how shots are counted. His more detailed account referenced going to a small town where the goalie led the state in % that season. After seeing him play he found out why.

Be kind. Rewind.

Re: AA Goalies, over 91% Saves Thru Feb 13 Midseason
I have been to games where SOG pile up:
if the shooter sneezes in the direction of the net
I've seen it called a shot when it hits the iron (only)
so many times they call anything the goalie catches (standing over their head, or 2 feet wide of the net)
as long as it hit the goalie it gets called a shot
I have also watched the shots stop like the button is broke:
Goalie gives up several fast rebounds and the puck finally goes in to see only 1 shot go up (the goal)
I have watched the score keeper handling the penalty door missing shot after shot
I have literally seen the score keeper so intent on getting the new goal on the board they don't even add the shot (nothing worse)
The most obvious is when they are little and the goalie's parent "volunteers" for the penalty box/shot keeping (ding, ding, ding, ding)

Also provided number of wins and goals against average , to supplement the save ratio statistic . Until they start providing
data on quality vs routine saves , rebounds given up , misplays, etc etc thats about all we can do . So make your own judgments I guess .
