With 41, does that make a 90% save percentage just above ordinary...in other words, has the bar for good goaltending been raised? Think about it, if you see 30 shots(10/period), translates to 3.00 goals allowed,

I'll defer to WestMetro on what he goal was here, but if I were looking to cut people from this list, I think I'd raise the 300 minute limit before raising the save percentage. That's just six games, and most of the leaders here are well over 1,000 minutes.

Just passing on the data

And to generate conversation

Didn’t go back to check , but yes I’m thinking this years number over 90% is much higher

Raising the cutoff to 500 minutes would only reduce the count be 4-5 kids . Didn’t want to leave out some important support goalies

I think if you are trying to rank them I would base it on at least 60% of game time which would be about 750 minutes in most cases, considering pulled goalie time and overtimes.
If not ranking and just tracking, it is impressive to see so many over the 90 mark..lots of tenders working hard and training year around. Wonder if the total goals scored for all the games has gone down with the saves going up?
Or maybe everyone just tries to get pucks on net, so less quantity shots.🤔

I think we crossed that threshold several years ago. I am far from an expert on goaltending, but the improved coaching, training, and equipment has made a big impact on the quality of goalie play at the high school level. It’s tough to win if you’re not getting at least a 90% save rate.

I hate to call out one goalie, but Clafton realized his potential (and had better play in front of him) this season, and jumped from .886 to .935, and that is a huge reason for Rapids’ improvement.

Stang is on to something here. % can be a somewhat misleading stat. 90% plus seeing high percent of grade A (50-50 pucks) is far cry from 90% from perimeter. Although any goalie will solid defense play any day  =D>

A few years ago I was seeing NHL SOG broken out at even strength and on PP. It was normal to see a team lose 2-1 with the goalie stopping 100% 5-on-5 and giving up 2 goals on 4 shots on the kill. Add in OT played at 3-on-3 and a shot is not a shot is not a shot.

Like most statistics, it tells part of a story but for the whole book it really points you to which questions to ask. Brett Hull is in the Hall of Fame and just barely registers above 0 for +/- and Allen Iverson won the MVP in a season he shot 42%.
Be kind. Rewind.

Yes, save % provides some insight, but is probably not nearly the whole story. The teams overall strength and maybe as importantly their team's playing style (lockdown defense vs. firewagon) has a HUGE impact on this statistic.
