Yikes, someone woke up cranky after that tie last night, and the poor Tigers happened to be the recipients of the beat down.

Orono 4-1 over Alexandria, final.
Shots 37-19 per Hub.
The results between EGF, Orono, Alex, and Delano lined up pretty logically, as it turned out. (Of course it is still just the first weekend.)

Re: Games Saturday 11-23-19
I thought it was a very well played game by both teams. I was really impressed by Rapids - a very different vibe. There was a lot of hustle and effort, they fought well for the puck on the boards, and seemed to really skate well together. A good team effort. BSM brought it about the last 6 minutes, so there was a great deal of anxiety until Peart sent the empty netter.
Neither side got chippy or cheap and I didn't hear much complaining from either bench. Both coaching staffs impressed me.
It will be interesting to see what happens going forward. This early in the season, was BSM tired from yesterday's destruction of DLH-Marshall? Or is Rapids that improved? I will choose to go with the latter.
This could be a very likable GR team. It appeared the players were in-sync and had each other's backs. I did not see anyone taking shifts off or giving up on the play as it went away from them. There were no bone-headed penalties...well maybe one...but not like the past couple years. I look forward to seeing how they mature as a team and under a new coach.

Very impressive win by Rapids. Andover might not be as much of a heavy favorite anymore.

Rsmt Beats Tonka 5-2 . Might otherwise be termed
the Luke Levandowski show , with 4 of them.
Assuming Danny and Karl will debrief more on the Podcast

Rosemount’s 4D might be the best In the state! (Ratzlaff, Campbell, Wheeler, Horsager.) They have three Marquee forwards in Levandowski, Kenefick and Stramel. And a goalie in Tollefson that had a .900+ save % last year.
Sabo who normally plays D is centering the top line and had 1g and 1a tonight.
Adam King who centered Levandowski and Kenefick last year is currently out with a concussion.

@greenwayraider Rapids gets goaltending like that this year they are mighty formidable club in 2019. Impressive win on a short transition to new coaching staff.greenwayraider wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 9:50 pm Very impressive win by Rapids. Andover might not be as much of a heavy favorite anymore.

Totally agree with your take on the defenseman. Rosemount pk was great last night blocking shots and keeping things on the perimeter. Horsager with a number of blocks.OBOY wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 12:57 am

A few other thoughts this morning
Streeter backhander for the Skips was a beautiful tying goal in the first
Irish shorty late in the second seemed to turn the game momemtum
Ratzlaff had a few nice rushes to the net, something I hadnt seen over the years.
The size of this Irish team is impressive, rivaling some of the Wayzata teams over the years.
Freshman Stramel looked very comfortable in his varsity debut. And his wingspan waving his stick around the ice out front on the PK help frustrate the Skip PP.
This was a hungry team. Forecheck was tenacious.
They brought a huge fan base and student section over to the West Metro.
Expecting Karl will move them up to the #2 slot when his rankings come out later today, with BSM and Andover going down on Saturday.
A long way to go, but this team has potential to walk through Section 3AA to the X next March.

Re: Games Saturday 11-23-19
I attended Delano-EGF and Minnetonka-Rosemount yesterday. Some additional thoughts:
East Grand Forks took it to Delano for most of that game. Parker and Poolman both had strong games, and their D corps shoots plenty and does a good job of getting involved. Ausmus did seem a bit uncharacteristically out of sorts, and I agree with WestMetro's assessment on Panzer, who left the game with an injury. Even so, there are a lot of good parts to this EGF team and I expect them to improve as the season goes along. Delano had a penalty shot, which was their one chance for a highlight, but it didn't finish it. Decent team, but based on early returns, Orono is the team to beat in 2A.
The Rosemount-Tonka game was a treat. Great crowd at Pagel (the Irish traveled well) and a fantastic pace. Rosemount may be led by their D, but they are anything but some plodding defensive squad. They're always looking to turn things back up ice and were nailing a lot of long stretch passes, including a beauty on the first goal by Levandowski. As others have noted, their shot blocking was excellent; the 5 D they were rotating make for one of them more complete groups in recent memory. The Irish are legit. Now, how good can Stramel become over the course of the season, and if another good defensive team can shut down their stretch game, how do they respond? No rankings until next week, but I came away thoroughly impressed by the Irish.
All things considered, the Skippers did a decent job of hanging around. Their inexperience on D was evident, but by the third period they'd settled in somewhat. They're reasonably deep up front but got frustrated by Rosemount's shot blocking and one of their better forwards did not have one of his better nights. If not for the shorty late in the 2nd that gave Rosemount the lead and the momentum, they could have stolen this one. Real credit to Brandon Shantz for his night in goal, including three point-blank saves early in the 2nd when the Irish could have run away with it. I think Tonka will stay in the 6-10 range of the rankings for the time being--good pieces, capable of upsetting top teams when the stars align, but not quite on that level.
