In order, most likely first:

1) WBL wins a quarterfinal game

2) Moorhead wins State

3) South St Paul? Win State? Not even in Class A. Never.

White Bear will have a team capable of getting past the quarterfinals at state next year. The only question is will they actually do it. Not sure how good some of their teams have been throughout history that have made it and lost right away but they will be very good next year. It won’t be easy for them getting out of sections though as Stillwater will have a top tier team and Hill can win/upset on any given year.

Amazing to think of the roster that could be at WBL next season based on some of their squirt/peewee/bantam teams. Notable players not currently on the roster include Cameron Berg (AAA Lancers), Owen Gallatin (USNTP), Chaz and Cruz Lucius (Gentry 15U, although some people may say they could also be in Blaine as well, long complicated story there). That being said, they should have a slightly better team than this year, with the only major losses (imo) being Millard, Meister and Bill. Return 4 of their top 6 forwards assuming everyone stays, including a rose, roed, hofeld, and newpower who all I think will have major jumps in point production.

Additionally, Jakob Martin, who plays for Gentry 15U is listed as from WBL. Does anyone know the story on him? Apparently a great player, but I don't think he ever played in the WBL youth system. Anyone know the details?

Some of the late 90s-2008ish teams were ranked in the top 2-3 teams in the state. The 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 teams were top ranked and the 04-05 team won the Schwan cup that season against arguably a better field than the state tournament that year.

In a lot of ways we talk about DE as an Edina killer, but they have also been a WBL QF killer in multiple scenarios where WBL seemed about to breakthrough.

2001, 2003 and 2005 WBL all had great teams.

In 2005, they probably had the best team in the tournament. fell to DE in an upset.

For the WBL posters out there, is next year the last real chance WBL has to make the tournament for a while?

Hard to tell. The youth teams are definitely not as strong as a whole from what I understand until you get to the squirt level, but I've been told there is definitely talent, so when they can combine groups of 3 years who knows. I think 2 years from now they will be ok as well, but probably eclipsed by Stillwater and Hill.

Is this NTDP WBL kid have a chance at playing for WBL HS?
Roed, Hofeld, Rose, Newpower should be a solid core. Really would be a state champ contender if Berg went the HS route.

East absolutely stole the 2005 game. The Bears had a senior Justin Braun, a junior David Grun (a dominant HS player), and several other future D-I players. SOG were 29-13 WBL, and while East had a couple of good very young talents and a handful of quality high school senior forwards, that team had a very tumultuous year and had pulled an upset of Cloquet just to make it to State. East stuck around for most of the game and then popped two quick goals in succession to win the game 3-2.

In 2011 East was the superior team talent-wise, but a scrappy WBL team stuck around and really had the momentum in the third period after they'd come back to tie it. I believe they even had a goal waved off on a clear high stick very late in the game that could have won it. East settled back in after that and won it in the 2nd OT. Fond memories.

I don't follow it that close, but at some point Berg was even on the USHL team this year!

If you are referring to Gallatin, he left last year.

If you are referring to Jake Martin, I don't know if he ever played in the WBL system, but had he gone to WBL this year, he likely would have been on the top pair. Crazy to think you could have had Gallatin/Martin next to each other at some point.

It would have been Hambly/Collova like.

Berg was a tender for the USHL Lancers this year. Played last year (17-18) for the Omaha U16 AAA team and played this season (18-19) on the USHL Lancers.

So no. You won't win. Ever. Change our minds. Please.

Bears should be good next year. The year after that however might be a drop. Will still have good players but there's no way the Roed kid plays his Senior season in HS. He'll be Ripe for the USHL picken's. Hard to believe Stillwater will be that much better next year?

I wouldn't be 100% on the Roed thing. If anyone could be a lesson in how leaving early isn't always the best route, he wouldn't need to look any further than his dad and uncle. Granted, he could be a different story if he were to leave early, so we will just have to wait and see how his career develops.

Yeh but that was back when it was exploratory process. Top players were't sure which way was best to take. Now days your path is set out before you. If you commit and they want you to play a year In the USHL then that's what you do. Not saying that the kid would want to do it or anything but he would be a candidate for that by then I would think.
