1. After the 1997 7AA final, in which East beat Hibbing, my brother, who was there, told me that after the game Randolph was taunting and swearing at the dejected Hibbing players. Maybe he thought they were taking cheap shots, but even so, that doesn't seem like the adult way to handle it.
I was at this game as a member of the media. There was initial reaction to what was happening here, but the Duluth East fan section, mostly the students, were behind the Hibbing bench. Mike was raising his hands in celebration to the fans in attendance. It was misinterpreted that he was taunting. I looked it over on my video footage and it was very clear. Just unfortunate physical positioning.
Say what you will here, but I can say that Mike was not one to rub a win in a loser's face. Just is not his style, ever.

Ok, I'll buy your take on it. My bro wasn't on the team, so it was likely a sour grapes story from the Hibbing players. Good to hear that Randolph's wouldn't do something like that.
Speaking of 1997 Hounds, I was at the state tournament championship game where Dan Carlson of Edina got the lone goal to beat Duluth East one - zero.
One of few times Edina has beaten Randolph head to head in St Paul

Seems like a pretty quiet off season so far regarding departures. Is there a strong movement towards kids staying it is it just early?
It's just early, things will probably start to pick up a little more in mid-July after the USHL 30-man rosters are filed
I would be shocked if Clafton left , he has a nice team coming this year. He is not going to split time with anybody plus I think he needs a little more development yes He won Rapids games last year but he also struggled in a few too and Rapids plays the best teams so he is always going to see above average play.

He was at Bismarck's main camp, not sure how that turned out
Clafton was in the 2 all star games which included 15 current Bobcats. (6 goalies in all-star games- all very good)
Coach probably asked him if he was going back to HS, or not?
Wonder what Clafton said to the Bismarck coach

Knowing who 4 of the goalies were - I don’t think CC is in the top 2. That being said, I understand the allure of the NAHL vs HS as 2 01 goalies were drafted out of the NAHL (Haider and Brady). Only 1 01 was drafted out of HS and that was Dom Basse - Washington DC. He wasn’t even in the NA top 30.
This is CC’s draft year and more power to him to make the jump if he think he has a legitimate chance of getting drafted. If that even is his goal (which I’ve heard it is).
