Clearly a list based on career achievements and nothing to do with H.S. Hockey.

Spehar should be in the top 5 and didn’t make the list.

Were Erik Johnson’s Freshmen & Soph seasons at AHA really that memorable? How long was Stepan at Hastings? Or Leopold at Armstrong? Wheeler #10? As a HS player not even close. Guys like Backes and Joel Otto flourished well after High School. Pohl & Millen can’t crack the top 50? No Gino Guyer?

Very poor research by the press. Or it’s just not intended to be about their High school years.

If it’s career achievements then how could John Mayasich be #1 without having played a single game in the NHL. I know there were only 6 teams then but at least Mariucci played for the Blackhawks.

Even if it is career achievements the high school career that Dave Spehar had should be enough to at least be in the top 25 let alone top 75. Him and Besse have two of the most memorable performances in history. Spehar seemed to do amazing things every year.

Cool to look at this list though.

This list is awful

Tim Sheehy at #36 and Johnny Kohl at #50 is more awful

No Dave Spehar, Ben Hanowski or Scott Bloom is even more awful

I guess it's "best hockey players that played HS hockey", but it's still awful.

I thought it was a pretty fun list. Their focus was top 75 players that have played high school hockey so rankings can look a little off but that is the primary reason. I certainly don't agree 100% but enjoy the coverage.

Star Trib/MN Hockey Hub is based on tournament performances. Personally, I enjoyed that more but happy both are putting good coverage together.

No Brian Bonin (White Bear Lake), Tom Gorowsky (Centennial), or even any of the four Peltier's (Skip, Ron, Doug & Bob) from St. Paul Johnson in the 60's and early 70's is surprising as well.
