I watched a good portion of the LDC vs Mound tilt last night, and LDC is offensively challenged, to put it mildly. The Dragons have a solid D corps and Halonen is a very capable backstop, but they struggled to generate any scoring chances. I realize that Mound is better than most 3A teams, but this has been a recurring theme for LDC this year, with three goals being their highest output of the season. That’s a tough way to win consistently.

Curious if LDC's offensive struggles are partially due to playing 5 of their 6 games on the road and not being able to dictate line match ups. Thoughts?

That one is rather shocking, particularly the margin of victory. MR had been rolling, albeit against lesser competition. I see that New Ulm racked up five straight goals in the first period. Between that game and Mankato East’s struggles against Hutchinson, perhaps 3A will turn out to be stronger than 1A this season.

That is a good win for Marshall. They will play Simley on Monday, who knocked off Henry Sibley 2-1 on Saturday.

I would move them up to #35 in the A rankings after that win. =D>

Pretty surprising to see that Minnesota River took down Marshall 4-1 this afternoon. MR had been trending downward lately, particularly with a blowout loss to New Ulm.

MN River came out hard and fast. Put Marshall on their heels long enough to make it 2-0. Pretty even most of the way after the first. Could say ice tilted Marshall’s way in zone time and shots but never significantly and not on the scoreboard, they limited grade a’s, protected the middle, kept Plante quiet.

It appeared they came in with those intentions and caught Marshall susceptible to being out willed, at least long enough to get a lead and frustrate them playing catch up.

Before Christmas I thought both Marshall and Minnesota River would be top 20 teams when they met. Then, for whatever reason, MR went south quickly.

With these two teams and New Ulm, this is as good as this conference has ever been. It is nice to see.

Well, despite the fact that no Luverne fans are around to remind us how good they were, don’t sell those years short . It’s almost like you could excuse their red glasses if it was all hometown pride but it turns out it was mostly ego. Who’d have thunk? I had a feeling they were bandwagon but they’d have never let you accuse them of it. Even Elliot has tried to troll them out on here to no avail. Make my words take a knee, they’ll be back, just not this year.

Even Warroad has down years , fortunately , for all of us, the rest of the state isn’t paying enough attention to remind us how small turd hill is, king stuff.

But you’re right. There is good teams in the conference and they benefit from the competitiveness. Possibly with make the tourney implications.

Luverne’s run was good for hockey.

Though they didn’t ever get the big win in St. Paul they did get the crowd behind them and in the long run I think that helps hockey in their conference and part of the state....if Luverne can do it, why can’t we?

I liken it to John Marshall in 1977, their successful run made it possible for other SE Minnesota teams to succeed....Red Wing, Austin, Albert Lea, Owatonna, etc.

They (Luverne fans) are who we thought they were.
